What happens if I cancel my subscription?

If your a crown player, you loose nothing when you stop playing unlike the poor subscriber who basically looses everything until they pay again BOO HOO. Kinda stinks to be a subscriber in this case .

I have to agree with you here. When I first started playing of course I was a free player, then quickly decided to do the monthly subscription.
When I could afford to buy a years membership, I did just that.
So, I'm paid up till Feb 2010. However, I paid full price for this at 80.00 dollars, and feel that I'm being a bit ripped off because come Feb, I either have to pay another 80.00 or 60.00 for the year, or pay for crowns... this I feel is paying double for areas I had already paid for.
Had I known that there was a crowns option, and once you buy the areas with crowns you can unlock them forever, I would have done that option.
I'm a bit disappointed that we as full members are made to have to pay
for these areas again! This doesn't seem fair at all.

You can actually go in and change your Subscription type to Monthly or 6-Month, or cancel the subscription renewal at will. There is an option called "CHANGE SUBSCRIPTION" when you look at your Online Options via Wizard101.com where you can change it to 1-Month, 6-month, cancel, or keep it at a year. I bought the year during the Special $60.00 / Year during September, so I'm paid up until then, but I can change it at any time to renew monthly, semi-annual, or cancel renewal at any time.

To expand on Mr Lincoln's note:

If you unsubscribe, and your current subscription runs out, the next time you log in you will find yourself in Ravenwood. You will be able to access all of the Free to Play areas such as Unicorn Way, Triton Avenue and many more.

You will not lose any of the items you currently own, you will not lose any items you currently have in your storage. This applies to all items, whether you found them, bought them with gold, traded them for Arena Tickets, or purchased them with Crowns.

You will not lose any experience and your level will not drop.

At that time, if you wish to purchase individual areas with Crowns you can do so as you progress. Once you have purchased an area with Crowns, you can access it with any character on that account.

You -can- access Ranked Player vs Player for small Crowns amounts per duel.

Say you have a year sub, and you unsub, what happens to the year you paid for. Does it just go away? And is there a fee to unsub?

you remain Subscribed through that Year. you just don't Auto-Renew.

When I went to change my subscription and looked at Unsubscribing, it said a 0.00 will be charged.

If you un-subscribe you can switch to crowns, but every pvp ranked match will cost 50 crowns.
I think they should have a 5000 crown fee that unlocks pvp ranked permanately

I an subscribed but if I cancel and just buy areas with crowns... which would be cheaper?
And if I use crowns to unlock an area (if i unsubscribe) will that area be unlocked for good?

Is there a set amount of time in which after you unsubscribe that you will lose your account? If I cancel subscription for oh, I don't know... a year, then some day decide that I'd like to see what other horrible changes KI has made to the game, and I pay for a month, will all my characters be there with all the items I previously paid real money for (through crowns)?

I believe your character is just unable to access the areas that you are able to access as a member.
