Do you engage in wizard watching?

I was talking to a community member in my irl neighborhood about how fun "people watching" is and how observing the lives of others can be such a telling experience. And as always, I'll make a thread about it haha.

What I mean by wizard watching is similar to people watching in real life, which is basically sitting around and observing the movement of various people. I imagine wizard watching as just standing around and watching other players go about their business like questing or socializing. The main condition of people watching, and in this extent wizard watching, is that there is no intervening or interrupting the space beyond sensual observation.

Have you ever "just watched" other players go about their business?

Is this something you would want to do if you haven't tried?

Never done this. I also cannot imagine doing it. I'm very goal oriented in almost everything I do, so when I log on I typically have a to-do list in my head and get right to it. Once I'm done or possibly tired of questing, decorating, etc. for the evening, I log out. Rinse, wash, repeat.

Why? All you'd probably see is people spinning or occasionally saying inappropriate things to others.

Re: Do you engage in wizard watching?

I suppose, once upon a time, when I first started playing, I may have spent some time in The Commons observing conversations about gear or strategy or things like that without participating myself. Nowadays, the conversations I may see hold NO interest for me as they are mostly unrelated to the game and often topics I can't wait to erase from my chatbox.

If I arrive early to an area where I'm expecting to meet someone else, I may watch someone else going about their questing/exploration in that same area, but since I play in quiet realms on my main wizards that doesn't actually happen very often.

Re: Do you engage in wizard watching?

When the pet groups used to be a thing, I'd sometimes watch the different conversations while waiting for my turn to hatch. Other than that I don't bother with what others are doing or saying. I'm not that nosy and have my own agenda of things that I want to do. Even in real life I don't sit around and just watch people. Oh I might notice a person if they are doing something unusual of course but to just sit around and observe is not my thing. People aren't that interesting for the most part.

Re: Do you engage in wizard watching?

I totally "wizard watch" in The Commons, just because it's like bad reality TV or YouTube (Ambrose or Wu realm only). Last week, I was eavesdropping on some drama about a 52-year old who "talks too much" and the participants were slated to "go for round two" that night. Sometimes, when I'm sitting down to eat, I'll just go spin in The Commons for a bit and soak in the tea.

Re: Do you engage in wizard watching?

Listening to conversations, sure. But merely observing people in-game can't wield the same amount of information as it does in real life, I can't see where their focus is, how they react, move, idle et cetera.

Wizard watching is also a lot more work since I have to follow them around. In fact...

Did you mean to say "stalking"?

Did you mean to say "eavesdropping"?
