Are you done with the Summer 2023 Update?

Honestly I still don't know what to think about the Summer 2023 Update. And a large part of it is that I haven't actually done many of the features that were added to this game during that time and the proceeding patches afterwards, all of which have been hotly contested in the W101 community as a whole including ourselves. I never needed a Name Change or a Gender Change. As of this moment NOBODY in the Spiral has completed the Crying Skies Raid. Challenge Mode is near impossible. I don't play Beastmoon so I cannot speak to how good that addition has been if players have even tried. I've done one single In-Person Pet Kiosk Hatches and well... it came and passed. I also don't play PvP but when I watched @Caspeen fight a little while ago, it just felt so awkward and different from how PvP looked back when I was a PvP player.

Sorry, but this Thread is honestly a trick question because either people were done within the first hour of the Summer Update's release into Live Realm or people simply haven't engaged with the additional features to completion. It's pretty scary to even consider that. People changed their wizard's name and gender but that's just one and done... People tried Challenged Mode and failed, that's another one and done. People are still continuing to try the Crying Skies Raid, the very best the Spiral has to offer and with pages of strategies but it's obviously something casual players are never going to try...

Honestly, I had to think for a second to even remember what was in the update. I suppose that's all you need to know.

For me, I don't understand the desire to be "done with" an update to the game. There's much to be said for updates that aren't used up and over with 30 days after they come to the Live game. For many of us, casual players mainly, we are progressing at our own pace and not in any kind of race against time to be "done." Names changes, gender changes, etc. - these impact the individuality of a person's gameplay, the same as resetting training points and the Magic Mirror shop, not necessarily once and done.

If no one has yet to crack the new Raid, that's great, they still have something to strive for. I'm sure the developers are just waiting for the first crew to do it and then go "where's the next challenge?"

I'm like Willow, how can you ever be "over" an update. They make improvements, add new features which will be there till they decide to change things again. Every update isn't for everybody, some rave over what they've added, some could care less. Personally, the name change and raid I didn't find too interesting, though I did change the name on one character. I'm not in a guild so the new raid I couldn't take advantage of, but others did and many were anxious for the name & gender changing. Least that's my 2 cents worth on it anyhow.

Summer update had a short life span which is normal for summer updates. I always log in confused on what happened over the summer. I have found the custom characterizations a nice include though. I'm looking forward to the fall update but I know that I will complete the worlds is 3 days but it took them 8 months to make. lol I run out of stuff to do in wizard. Yesterday I decided to make new wizards to level up because I'm waiting for the new world to drop. For me that's a huge shock because I've only ever played 4 wizards. lol I like that there is activity for wizard during summer and fall. I was worried that Gameigo wouldn't do anything for us after they took over because I have heard a lot of negative things with them. So I'm waiting and excited for the fall update.

Neither the Spring or Summer update added any gameplay time for me.

Honestly this has become a very concerning trend @Sparck @Eric Stormbringer @Ratbeard Every major feature added since 2019 has been very unengaging, largely because they're targeted towards an extreme minority (like the raids and the Azoth system) or because they require an unreasonable amount of time for a meager reward (spellements, Cantrips, combat pet talents, Rate-a-Stitch).

Despite the fact KI is producing more content than ever, the majority of players are getting less content than ever.

Some situational additions were very appreciated, like the name change option, but aside from world updates, I tend to be "done" with updates before I start playing them. Meanwhile players I know who rely on word of mouth to learn of changes, most often won't even know of these additions for months because their friends are finding no worth in them.

I an not so sure I would use the term "over" with anything to be honest.

The game has so many things going on and (In my opinion) each time they add something it just makes it increasingly difficult for me to get fully into everything. I honestly (HONESTLY) wish that these interim updates were spent fixing bugs that have been around for weeks, months...years, YEARS.

All that aside, I used the name change to make all my Wizards have the same first name of Nathan. Despite my "lifestyle" I find the simple truth that half the fun of being me is I am a Guy, and the other half is that so is he and we are happy and content in that; so no need to change genders. I have 2 Wizards that are max level, but I am not in any guilds (But that might change, I have to talk to @Caspeen about that) so I can't do raids.

Going back to my earlier comment, I do wish KI would spend more time fixing the issues and bugs that linger even after a decade in some cases rather than adding more fluff.

This was the first update I’ve downloaded the test realm for in years. I was interested in one thing only; the ability to view the location of individual objects in the house tab of our attic before picking them up. This feature was a little rough in test, but since the release, it has been working well. I’m frequently finding it to be very handy, so as far as I’m concerned, this update was a win!

I can't say it's given me anything else to play for, at any rate. I'm completely uninterested in the competitive/cooperative side activities like PvP, Raids, Beastmoon, etc. etc. and I mostly play for the story. QOL like the name/gender change is wonderful, but it doesn't give me anything to actually do with my time.

I'm not sure that's entirely a bad thing for me though. The way it's situated, I can log on after each major update just to check out what's new for a bit, then go back to another game in my backlog while I wait for the big world update each year (at which point I can run through it on all 7 wizards and farm any gear that I might need before returning to waiting mode).

For players who *only* play Wizard101, or play it as their main game, I can see the updates being incredibly frustrating because there's only really substantial content for a casual player one month out of the year.
