What could Wizard101 learn from other games?

I presume we've all played games long before we've ever played W101 and while it is likely those games were different from this one, I think it's perfectly reasonable to say there's some aspects of those games that could be translated to W101.

How has your experience with other games influenced how you have played W101? Is there something from those games that Ki could adopt to W101?

Signature created by Expelliarmus in Blue Nouveau Designs, thanks!

Re: What could Wizard101 learn from other games?

Honestly, I think this is the real problem. KI/W101 doesn't need to "learn" anything from the other games. I think they are "learning" so much in their effort to copy them that they are losing the very things that made W101 so wonderful in the first place. They have been spending so much time trying to please the "hard core" games that they have all but forgotten the very regular people/gamer's that put them on the map in the first place.

Sorry, but I would be very happy if they stopped trying to copy others and messing with the formula that got them started and go back to basics.

      Hugs,

      V

Re: What could Wizard101 learn from other games?

All of the other popular "family friendly" mmorpg's of the same era have fallen away. Toontown, Club Penguin, FusionFall, that one with the stuffed animal - Webkins. I suppose the kids grow up and move on to the more adult games.

If there was a game to learn from, I'd say it would be Minecraft. Keep the original gameplay as much as possible - let it be as basic and endearing as possible, so that those who love it simple can continue to love it, and leave the harder core stuff those who want mods. Adding new stuff should never take away from what was original fun and what drew long-term players to the game in the first place.

Re: What could Wizard101 learn from other games?

I think Wizard101's Stitching system could do with a redesign inspired by how fashion is handled in the Monster Hunter series.

In Monster Hunter, fashion equipment is not tied to an individual armor piece, but rather a separate section called "Layered Armor." Layered Armor is essentially a second equipment section, where you can equip or unequip gear similarly to your main gear. The difference is that the appearance of Layered Armor always takes priority over what you are using for your stats. Crucially, you can change around your main equipment without it affecting your appearance; Layered Armor is not tied to individual gear, so it would still appear at what you were wearing.

I think this system is far better than what Wizard101 currently has. Right now, if you want to change up your equipment, you have to re-stitch. I know Stitching doesn't cost that much Crowns, but I tend to be stingy with my Crowns and so I'd be really happy with this.

Agreed, The thing I loved about W101 is how it was magical, simple and fun. The magic is just not there anymore. Over time, the simple part of the game has gradually disappeared. Fun, I don't know where to start on this. I feel like with the new team, they shifted their direction in how to move forward with the game. They might be trying to change things with what newer players are asking for and trying to bring in more new players. By doing this, they are forgetting the older players and why we are here. The way I see it, if you like complexity of games and want this or that, then go to the game who offer it. Don't ask for this or that, to change what is know to be a family fun game into like any other game.

I am still here and still playing wizard101 and I hope that KI sees that there are the older players and don't forget about us and what WE have enjoyed about the game.
