I have been "on the fence" since they announced the Irk Plushie as to whether or not I wanted to get one for my collection.
I have all the others and also the Ambrose figure, but did not order the Irk yet.
It just seemed wrong (And ugly to be honest) to try and promote the new world instead of doing the old classics that helped build the game and already had many, MANY fans attached to it. I was looking for Grandmother Raven, one of the Teachers, something that we could ALL immediately feel connected to.
I just checked the Makeship sight to see what progress the Irk was making and was a bit shocked at what I found. I figured there would be some people buying them (A little over 1,000); but with only 9 days left to buy them, they have only sold 371 plushies.
@Sparck, this was brought up before but I will say it again:
While we are overjoyed at the plushies we have asked for over so many years, KI really dropped the ball on this one. The selection of what to make into a plushie needs to seriously consider the simple concept of recognizability. If the character is not immediately recognized and have a bond in the memories of the players it just wont be popular or profitable. Going for the chance to promote the new world failed...the other figures sold in the thousands, THOUSANDS within the first couple weeks while this sad little guy has sold less than 400 with only 9 days left to be bought. Sad, very sad.
We have more than proved we love the plushies, but to just throw anything out there simply wont work, you have to consider what attachments we have to the character, and in this case, the attachments the the Irk are almost none to the majority of players.
I want to help your people select the next one, so I am asking our players (The people who are going to buy them) what character they want to see and will buy...
What about it guys, lets not see another "Irksome" flop, what character do you want for a plushie??
