Building the ideal ice wizard

Hello all, my name is Dylan otherwise known as Edward Firehammer Level 150 Ice Wizard.

I am having a very difficult time making the ideal ice wizard right now. I keep hearing things about the Merc gear but every time I try to farm the quest, I keep being verbally abused, bullied, and or discriminated against by other players because I fizzle due to my gear not providing enough accuracy for my school. This is beyond the point though and no I'm not being overly sensitive. I am a nurse by profession and you need thick skin with that job. I just don't like it when, although I am trying my best, I keep getting put down by others because of my high level and presumptions that I should already have the correct gear at the time. I don't mean to be blunt or sound like I'm whining but it really is annoying and disheartening.

I don't want to make a new ice wizard if I can help it but I would like to try and start over with this current wizard that I have. I am almost completely done with the crafting quests so that isn't an issue. The issue is that my current wizard has low accuracy, low resistance, and damage that should be better than it is. Plus pets that don't offer any universal resistance LOL!!! In other words, I'm a Cold Mess LOL!!!

I have just about 8,850 Health Points and 344 Mana. I could really use the help of some more experienced and stronger wizards, especially ice wizards, to tell me of some gear that could be the equivalent of the Merc Gear. I am looking for Gear with Strong Universal Resistance, Damage that could be used for Questing (for fun) and PVP. My Pet, unfortunately, doesn't give any resistance. I've tried many different times with many different pets but I have zero luck. My pet does give 3 Wildbolts, +8 Universal Damage and may cast amplify.

My wand, despite being Level 90+, gives me +100 Critical Hit Rating and +100 Critical Hit Block. It also gives me +8 Fire, Ice, and Storm Damage. It is useful. Also, I need some guidance as to what kind of spells I should be putting in my deck, kind of like a fresh start that I could work on you know what I mean??? I rarely need to heal these days because I win the battles in a few turns but that is beside the point. I want to not just win but to also win and then some.

You might want to try crafting the dragoon gear from the Catacombs. It's a grind but double reagent events help a lot.

If you have finished the initial area of Lemuria, there will be a jewel vendor named Phaner. He has Universal defense jewels +29 for athames, amulets and wands, plus he might have Accuracy jewels. I also know he has +130 health jewels around 100K gold.

Always, always, always update your better jewels by SHATTERING existing ones, then APPLYING better ones.

Like Firesong mentioned, get your Dragoon gear, it can maximize your health stats to 11K.

As for decks, I can assist in helping you in minimizing your cards:

First off, x-out any cards you don't use from gear and pets. Make sure to carry at least one off-school wand like fire or storm.

Second, carry at least two decks; one for mobs and the other for bosses (both the same type that has health added in).

I can assist you further, after you have applied these.

Descrimination is beyond foolish thing in W101. Remember that. It has no place in this game and in anywhere in our greater reality and don't think for a second that isn't true. The difficulties of being a nurse (all the medical stuff thrown at your face) nd the discrimination in some half-decent but respectable family game are different levels or something like that. That said, you can always ask you to help you get any gear you're looking for as long as it doesn't cost anything. That means we can help you get Merciless Gear and Dragoon Gear if you want.

Now Now, I'm not going to talk explicitly about what the best Ice Gear is because everything I type about it will essentially be mute by the Novus update that's coming right around the corner but I've private messaged @Arwen Mythweaver about the topic awhile ago and it still applies. Idk where the message went though (I just checked now), maybe she still has it but Idk it's going to be outdated soon anyways.

I'll make sure to update you on what is going to be the best Ice Gear in the coming update but I'll have to figure that out myself which will take time

Hi Dylan, I've thought about this a bit, and while my Ice wizards are all pretty low level at the moment and my main is a Life Wizard, I have a couple of questions. You are Level 150, but have you finished questing? If not, where are you? When you say you're farming gear, which boss battles are you joining? Is it strictly a Team Up situation, or are you playing in a crowded realm and chatting with other wizards in the area? When you say you "want to win and then some" what does that mean, PvP?

Improving accuracy can be done pretty immediately using Star school spells such as Flawless, have you trained it? When you say you've tried many different pets, is that by self-hatching? The Kiosk?

You gave your stats, but could you name the pieces of gear you are wearing? That may give us some clues as to what might be changed.

Not exactly sure why your accuracy is not 100%, 15% accuracy jewels exist now. I have never had this issue on my ice and I farmed the last boss enough to max her spellements.


The fights are so fast in wiz these days (2-3 rounds), perfect accuracy and pips are fairly important.

an ice pet that has ice accuracy and damage epic or higher will improve your stats that is my advice.

I'm assuming that being level 150, you're farming the final battle of Lemuria for the Merciless gear. You give your stats, but listing the gear you are using would be more helpful, that way maybe we could lend some advice for some improvement.

As an example, I've an Ice at level 148, currently slogging my why through Lemuria (not fond of that world). My battle gear setup is as follows:

Hat: Vanguard Icy Helm (from farming The Drains, Wizard City, The Abandoned House)

Robe: Armor of the Cold Hearted (Darkmoor, The Graveyard)

Boots: Vanguard Icy Boots (farmed the Abandoned House for reagents, crafted the boots)

Wand: Sky Captains Boarding Hook (got from buying packs, which one I can't remember)

Knife: Shadow Spiders Sting: (from farming Morganthe in Khrysalis) on it are attached two 6% Polished Piercing Sapphire jewels, and a 12% Shiny Accurate Sapphire.

Amulet: Delightful Wonderneer Rope: (crafted from Karamelle)

Ring: Alpha and Omega : from farming Gladiator Dimachaerus in Aquila)

Pet is a triple damage, double resist pet that gives an Ice blade.

I generally cast ice spells only because that is my main school so I don't worry about my damage from other schools.

My main stats on this gear setup is as follows

Damage: 136 (Ice Only, not concerned with the rest)
Resist: 53 to everything
Accuracy: 31
Critical: 498
Crit Block: 169
Pierce: 25
Power Pips: 106

That's what I'm using and it's not the best, I'm still working on improving this guy but hopefully that'll help you a bit.

you dont need to name each school as you can do universal or just use the name the general stat

but as other's put it get dragoon gear mostly the amulet and boots and hat if you feel like grinding that, most ice players seem to run unforgive pack ice robe but it can be dropped from the unforgiven dead gauntlet if anyone you know has that

Make sure you are upgrading the jewels as well, +29 universal defense in Lemuria.
