What ever happened to large decks in the higher levels?

From the beginning of the game up to level 100, we slowly got more space in our decks for our main school and every other. After the crafted Darkmoor decks, nada, nothing! All of the newer decks hold far too few cards. I think it would be nice if we could see top-level decks that can hold nine off school cards, with critical, block, good health, extra pip and a triangle slot. KI wants to encourage dual school meanwhile the average off school card you can carry is 4.

      Let's change that!

(If it's a PVP consideration, make them non-PVP)

It would be AMAZING if the max card limit was above 4 for spells that aren't your school. Idk why they decreased it in the first place.

Re: What ever happened to large decks in the higher levels?

My guess is it's because most people pack so few cards in their decks as it is that the number of copies is meaningless compared to the stat boosts they offer. Personally having more max copies of off-school spells for situations where having more than a few cards would be great, but this is most likely the reason why newer decks these days have so few allowed off-school copies.

I'm not sure why they're doing this but I like to still use the crafted Darkmoor decks even if the stat boosts aren't gonna be the best..

that was one of the first things I was taught in the game. Put in as few cards as possible for mob and minor boss fights. you usually fill up the deck in major cheating bosses like in Helephant tower when it was relatively new like a year or so old.

I too would like to have more cards. one of the reasons i usually don't use decks beyond Khrysalis .

      Blue,

Some of my wizards carry 3 decks, some only 1. Those that carry 3 have a mob (6-10 cards), boss (12-15) and Monstorology (3-4).

At times I don't mind switching between mob and boss decks, but I am surprised that health takes a hit unless they fixed it

Another option which I suggest using, is the x-ing out of cards gained by clothing, wands and pets. This can help alot when trying to have a quick battle. Just make sure to have an off-school wand, so you don't destroy your school blades against a Fire Efreet, I'd suggest keeping 2.

In regards to mob fights, you don't need the wands unless fighting fire mobs.

Re: What ever happened to large decks in the higher levels?

I think that it was mostly a PVP thing that the amount of max copies went down. There were people who went back to the Darkmoor deck to bring 8 trained copies of spells like 2-pip bubbles (before the hard 4-copy maximum was added) and more recently with Troll before the lower path was PVP-banned.

I usually don't have a problem with having so few copies of a card in my deck. It only ever really comes up against bosses that want me to spam a bunch of hits on because I only get 4 copies of Epic. I'd have to throw in Colossal and maybe even Gargantuan as well. I probably should use my Darkmoor deck for this more often but I keep forgetting to.

Maybe if there was a fundamental change to how PVE works so that buff-stack AoE is no longer a dominant strategy then I might value having more copies of off-school spells. But right now I would rather have everything else that a deck offers than more max copies.

Re: What ever happened to large decks in the higher levels?

It's a change pushed by the dev team that got established around Polaris, particularly Pirate101 devs starting to work officially in Wiz. The reasoning is Wizard101 is a card game and the ability to carry 8 copies of an off-school spells kills the challenge of deck-building, harms school identity and spell variety.

They also argued it doesn't affect questing players since you're just supposed to blade-blade-aoe in 99% of the game; this dev team is notable more comfortable in upholding (and facilitating) this meta than previous devs, hence why we have overturned rank 7 AoE's and everything's health is on the levels we used to see in Zafaria.

Because of the expectation you'll play this way, there's no reason you should need over 4 copies. And where you do need more copies, such as pvp and raids, the limit is meant to become a part of the challenge.

With very few exception, I never need more then 7 cards in my deck. For PVE anyway.

Re: What ever happened to large decks in the higher levels?

I prefer carrying more than whatever the present meta is. That way, if needed, I have the extra blades and hits for whatever situation might pop up. I just wish I could carry more copies of my epic and sharp enchants than just four each to balance out what I carry. I could probably use that triangle socket for something besides an extra epic enchant or even swap decks for a different socket shape (another damage jewel would be nice) if I could. I prefer being over prepared versus under prepared and having to start over because something didn't go right.

If the decks remain the way they are now, then trying to get people to go dual school will be useless. Why would I want to add another school to my deck when I can't carry more than four of the strongest hits I have available to me in that particular school? I wish KI would remember that not everyone plays the meta way of the game. Some of us actually like to do things differently.
