A Message from KingsIsle - Wizard101 Broadcast System Breach

This past Friday the Broadcast System of Wizard101 was illegally accessed to post inappropriate messages in-game as if they were written by a KingsIsle employee. We sincerely apologize for the unacceptable statements making their way into the game and causing disruption of your gameplay. We take great care in ensuring Wizard101 is a family-friendly game and feel disheartened when someone finds a way to disrupt that experience.

The incident was quickly identified, and steps were immediately taken to halt the behavior. We turned off the Broadcast System and have added additional security measures to ensure this won’t happen again. At this time, we believe that an external party initiated the messages through a non-traditional method of accessing the Broadcast System. No other systems were accessed.

Considering the incident has soured your celebrations of the birthday month, we want to close out September with a bang. From now until the end of the month, we are enabling all Member Benefits and granting Membership to all players. Both will be enabled for EU players as well.

Thanks to everyone for your patience and support as we resolved this unfortunate incident.

They really didn't have to do that, more so I kind of wish they hadn't. Why? Because it is going to paint them in a "here's something that happened, sorry." picture.

While I really think it's genuine, they knew this was a stir up, and I don't want to take giving everyone membership/their benefits that alot of people subscribe for lightly, that's talking with their pockets.

I just hope they are truly ensuring it's more locked down so it doesn't happen again above all, it sounds more like a "system" was accessed, than say a employee account which could bigger concerns as systems should generally be harder to break into than say an username and password.

I appreciate the sentiment and at least she clarified that only the broadcast system was accessed, nothing else so accounts sound safe to me. What's still a mystery is who; but legally I don't think they could even give a hint beyond "3rd party" which to me confirms non-KI so that sounds de-bunked to me.

Great job KI. I kind of had a hunch that it wasn't a KI employee that was going crazy despite what everyone was saying. Glad to hear that they are offering free membership to everyone!

OK, so we finally hear something about what happened AND I am very grateful for the apology and free memberships, benefits etc.

Still, I feel something still isn't right but since I am no computer/IT techie I can't say much more than it's just a feeling. This isn't the first time someone has interrupted the broadcasting system with dire consequences...

All Benefits at once doesn't come around very often. I'm going to enjoy my free fishing week.
