Azoth Math & Guild Lock Progression

Am I the only one that finds the math on the guild unlocks weird? @Jonathan Greenflame - you're a numbers guy, what do you think?

So here we have 41% complete on this unlock. Is it? The math is straight, unweighted addition of numbers of reagents:

Raw# Spirit Element Harmon Azoth Total Pct
      Have 43 42 43 36 164
      Need 120 120 120 36 396 41%

10:1 Spirit Element Harmon Azoth Total Pct
      Have 430 420 430 36 1,316
      Need 1200 1200 1200 36 3,636 36%

      It's worse here:

That's a difference of 13% complete vs. 5% using base reagents primarily due to the raw azoth TC column counting just like refined azoth. I haven't seen any school azoth unlocked yet, but I imagine it works the same way and would create even more of a delta.

When I eyeball the numbers in game, my brain goes to "just over a third done" or "about 5%" which aligns more with the second set of numbers, not the in-game calculations.

      Is it just me? Thoughts?

Actually thought this would be about how outrageous the costs are below the first level of any gate. Never checked the math myself, I just keep dumping reagents till its done lol.

"Just over a third done?" Maybe that's because 40 is a third of 120, eh? That's how I look at it, lol. This is the kind of math the devs use for what they go-lightly refer to as "auditing."

Except spirit, element and harmonious cost 10 azorth and school ones cost 50.

Re: Azoth Math & Guild Lock Progression

Here's another oddity I can't explain. Go to the raid island and look at the crafter. You can make a Raid key (congrats Gorman!) and also rematch duels with Krokopatra, Meowiowarty, Malistaire, and so on. But unlike the ones you craft in the arena, these are crafted for azoth reagents and the obligatory trophy.

The formula for the Krokopatra one is three elemental azoth and the trophy. Currently, three elemental azoth will set you back at least 24 regular azoth. The most azoth you can hope to receive from the dungeon is 16 and sometimes as little as 12.

You are losing azoth if you craft the dungeon this way.

      I don't get it.

Maybe the rational is spellement farming and the heck with the azoth. IDK.

That's exactly my point. It IS just over a third done. NOT 41%. Or at least I don't see 41% one third. See the second counter which highlights the delta even better. And let me know how you're feeling about the math when we get to school azoth when one of those takes 50 TC azoth and counts the same as a single TC azoth D:

While I do agree a rose by any other name is still a rose, I don't think it works the same here.

Perhaps it's some sort of vampire math as, after all, another name for garlic is "the stinking rose...".

Re: Azoth Math & Guild Lock Progression

OK back for another mini rant! This math is even worse! So NOT halfway done here!

We still need 4,360 out of 6,510, and dividing that out it's 67% still needed. The 2,150 / 6,510 is 33% complete!

If we could directly farm school azoth, I'd see counting each type equally, but it evaporates FAST when you are refining 40 azoth ==> 5 refined azoth ==> 1 school (assuming you have the recipes, it's worse otherwise).\

      OK, rant over.

Valdus, you should add to this the post you made in-guild about the length of time to complete this nonsense.

Talk about the "in the long run..."
