      Can Guilds Remove Players?

Seeing all of the early costs to get a guild everything opened up. Then after that the elite players that are needed for raids. Are the original wizards disposable? Can they just be thrown out for more "valuable" members after being a huge part of lifting up a guild? Has KI made provisions so that players are not used for resources, then disposed of?

I think this is a VERY important question that I have seen brought up yet. Since the Guilds do have a limit of the number of members, what you are pointing out is a serious concern.

It also made me wonder, what provisions are there for situations where a member becomes "toxic" to the rest?

Oh yeah if Ki doesn't do something like that. That's gonna happen and oh is that going to happen to the wrong people. Being ostrasized or removed from a group you find valuable might not be as dangerous as in real life but it can still get to 1-100 quick especially given particular circumstances. If you think something is not dangerous, then it's more dangerous than it actually is.

      Re: Can Guilds Remove Players?

The Update Notes state that the Guild Leader may remove a player from the guild.
At this time, I haven’t seen any particular qualifiers to this statement.

Yes, I believe that this is a serious concern.
There is the potential for tossing out wizards who have worked hard to start the guild.
And of course the ostracism of players who are no longer “good enough”.

I really hope that KI has thought this through, but I doubt it.
In a rush to get anything accomplished, the possible consequences are overlooked.
After the deed is done, it’s too late and people have been hurt.

      Re: Can Guilds Remove Players?

      ?

I don't see how this is some massive problem that guilds are responsible for.

If someone wants to make a guild for "ultra hardcore players" then you best join because you personally fit that description and not just because it sounds cool.

In live, if I join an informal friend group that focuses on farming dungeon X and Y, yet I refuse to do so, then what happens? I will probably not be invited to partake in that friend group during most of their activities. Maybe I get removed from a full friends list or two. It's not an indictment about who I am as a person but rather a fundamental disagreement in purpose.

Is there any specific way that the current guild system as proposed changes this to make it worse? Because, if not, there is no complaint here.

That's not to say something akin to gatekeeping can't become a real problem, but I do think we are way too early in this introduction process to be making that judgement.

In my experience with guilds, they get pretty toxic, really no way to prevent it, have fun with that!

      Re: Can Guilds Remove Players?

I don't think all Guilds will be created the same. I don't think all Guilds will be competitive, either with each other or within the membership itself.

Just like in real life, if it's not a good fit, there has to be a way out.

      Re: Can Guilds Remove Players?

Obviously the guild master can remove players if need be (I'd say it'd be a major problem if they couldn't), but like @Cosmos said people are being way too quick and eager to blow this out of proportion simply because of the "Current KI made it so it will be rushed with problems" mindset. Is there the potential for problems? Sure, but think of it this way: the owner of a house can boot people from it for any or no reason at all, so is that feature a problem simply because a select few abuse it? Most would agree that it's not, so I would imagine the same thing applies to this.

Yes KI's track record is faulty and they rightfully deserve to be called out on their more egregious mistakes. At the same time though we mustn't be so quick to condemn every single update they put out, as believe it or not not everything they touch turns to ash or rust.

      Re: Can Guilds Remove Players?

The leader of a Guild can remove any player, any time. Choose your leader wisely.

We intended this a way to remove players who are being jerks.

If we find this is abused we will consider remedies. Perhaps removing players should require a vote? Perhaps we should have a mechanism to elect leaders?

If this becomes a problem, please let us know.

      Re: Can Guilds Remove Players?

The only time I've seen this issue in other guilds/games, is the mobile game guild versions that are usually open invite to everyone and a casual joins a guild that is intended to be hardcore. If you don't "X" fast enough or beat "X" satisfactorily....you get the boot. Any other guild that has advertisements or announcements of what type of guild it is, usually doesn't have this problem.
