Thank you for this special reminder. I have been so caught up in the house that once again I have lost track of all time.

Tonight I will indeed light many candles because mine was not just a Father, but he was a Dad and best friend. No matter the family discord, he was always there for me and is still looking over me.

      Hugs,

Once i has a thought and that's been disturbing for a long time. So, i'm gonna ask here.
Question to all you guys: Why do you cry when someone dies? Is it because they are dead or because you lose them?
Do you cry for the death, or for the realization that you won't be able to meet them again?

This does not cover everything, but just a few thoughts about why I cry. Also, many other members shared their thoughts in the previous replies. Reading over them might also answer your question.

For me, crying is a normal part of the overall grief experience. It is a healthy way of dealing with grief. Crying is a way to release sadness about the person’s death.

Because death is final, I know that I will never see that person again. Sometimes I have some regrets for things I wish I would have said to that person, and now it is too late.

I loved that person unconditionally and they were a part of me.

I will miss them forever, and the pain of knowing this is overwhelming. I mourn the loss and their presence.

I realize there is nothing that can replace that person.

I know that my situation changed with the loss, and it made me sad. It takes a lot of time to heal. Some people cry for years, every single day.

As time passes, I can begin to accept the loss, and the pain of that loss becomes a bit easier to bear. Thinking of the person after some time has passed brings less sadness, and maybe even some pleasure as good times with them are remembered.

I cry because losing someone that I love is difficult.

You came to the right place to ask such a "personal" and important question.

As @Alura Mist said, there are some helpful insights throughout this thread and she covered some very deep and personal observations on her own reasons.

In all honesty, I don't think there is or ever will be a simple "one size fits all" answer to this. The reasons, I feel, are greater in number than there are people on this spinning blue marble.

As for myself, the reasons are mixed and always based on the situation. In general:

I have cried because I was letting myself be "selfish" at the lost of someone important to me
I have cried because of the relief of seeing them no longer in pain
I have cried for those who could not cry in their own loss
I have cried because someone I would lean on was no longer there
I have cried for those who were lost due to war or natural disasters
I have cried when I shared another persons grief

As much as I have cried, I have also smiled and laughed in memory of all they were and all the joy they brought to my life or the world; a joy that will be forever in my memory and heart as I celebrate them.

If you or anyone else has had a loss, be it human or animal, the best medicine is to not bottle up your feelings; when you're ready open up and let it go. There are many people and places you can open up to, like this very special family here at Central; so when your ready, we are here.

      Love and comforting hugs,

      Van

      "Seven Minutes in Heaven"

The Thanksgiving Holiday is approaching this month, and other Holidays will follow in December. It is a bittersweet and sometimes difficult time for those of us who lost a family member, loved one, friend, or any other significant person in our lives. It does help to share during the Holidays, and always.

Thank you to Reba McEntire for her video, “Seven Minutes in Heaven”.

"The music video for 'Seven Minutes In Heaven' is just really sweet and simple," she said. "We tried to imagine what it might be like to go to heaven and sit down with someone you've lost. The heartbreaker is that you only get to spend seven minutes with them. For me, that person is my Mama. I hope that the fans can imagine who that person is for them and find some comfort in knowing that someday, they'll get to spend forever with that person they love."

Seven minutes in heaven, I know just what I would do … I would spend them all with you.

This time of the year is always difficult for me. I know you're supposed to be happy and cheerful but it's rather depressing when the
family circle has so many open holes.
