Question Are there certain types of housing items you can/can't walk through?

I'm working on building a large balcony-ish thing with walkways, all open-air. I really want to put some sort of railing around the entire thing so that you can't fall off. I know there's various types of fences that you can't walk through, but I was wondering about using items other than fences since the fences often aren't the right size. How can you tell what items you can/can't walk through before buying them?

Besides walkable items like rugs, everything else will block you, as long as you donít leave spaces around it. Even tiny lanterns would work.

The thing is, I bought a log because they're cheap and thin so I thought that would be a nice cheap space-saving type of fencing, but I was able to walk right through it. And it doesn't seem intuitive to me that a log would be "walkable". But I'll check out some lanterns I guess.

Re: Are there certain types of housing items you can/can't walk through?

There are some item that allow you to walk through them if you try walking through them at a certain height. For example, the Grand Imperial Banner has a banner very high up, but if you sink it far enough, you could use the banner as a door to walk through. There are some trees you can walk through as well if you sink those too, such as the Large Willow Tree. If you use castle magic, you could choose to make these items bigger or make any item disappear, which means you can effectively create secret entrances and puzzles to accessing them.

I saw a house on Castle Tours that used chess pieces as railing - I thought it looked pretty cool.

What is the name of the log that you bought? I can buy a couple and test them out. In theory, anything that isnít flat like a wood plank should work.

Did you try placing multiple items along your walkway, or did you only set a single one down? Between any two objects, itís the walkable space between them that must be blocked, by setting them as close together as the placement function allows. I wonder if some screenshots would help to show whatís going on?

Re: Are there certain types of housing items you can/can't walk through?

Something that can help you control walkability are the invisible castle blocks sold in the housing tours room. Invisible walls can be used to limit walkable space, while invisible floors can be placed slightly above items to help give an illuson that you're walking on them.
In the case of the log, where you want it to serve as a fence, you can place an invisible wall on top of it, and it will prevent people from going through it. Unfortunately, these items can only be acquired with blueprint tokens, which are earned from the spiral scene, so you may need to wait a while before you can get them. It also requires you get a badge for visiting a 100 (I think?) castled, and starting from zero takes at least ten days since it will only count ten per day.
Hope this can help if you're still having issues.
