What do you think of Gardening?

What do you think about gardening?

Do you like how gardening has been (and had been for several years now)?

Is there something you would like to see in the future about gardening or something that Ki needs to fix?

Re: What do you think of Gardening?

On the whole, I think Gardening is okay, but it certainly could be improved. There are lots of potential improvements, such as creating Crafting opportunities for using up the small and medium treasure cards to make the "tend all plant" spells. Flood certainly is a super rare card that really is needed in greater quantities than I myself am able to find it.

Some of the seeds that were introduced later as variations on a basic seed -- Red and Golden Couch Potatoes, for instance -- need their drop tables looked at. They should be better than the basic seed, not worse.

I'd also like to see a "tend all" spell for pests inside and out. I don't stack my gardens, so I may have anywhere from one to seven or eight areas where I have planted groups, and being able to care for all pests would help enormously.

Re: What do you think of Gardening?

I've been a member off and on again for something north of seven years - perhaps three to four of those years as a paying member on two (and sometimes four) accounts. It's safe to say that my time gardening is somewhere in the neighborhood of my time spent questing. My general opinion agrees with @Willowdreamer - it ain't broke, but it could sure use a 50,000 mile major overhaul. Jewel seeds were a while ago - a major and valuable upgrade, and maybe there are a couple of other new ones that I'm not remembering off the top of my head, but otherwise it's been a dry five years for gardeners.

      General suggestions:

      1. Eliminate perhaps 20% of the current seeds, keeping in mind the need for beginner seeds - but also remembering that those surviving beginner seeds should be useful enough to encourage those beginner gardeners.

      2. Review the remaining seeds for value and possible connections to other activities - there's a lot of good stuff here already, the most obvious being the gardening/pet snack connection.

      3. Trees - we have things called trees, but they are really no different from dandelions in their growth patterns. How about real orchards - maybe a dozen hard to get seeds that last pretty much forever and have seasons like real trees? Rewards commensurate with time spent.

      4. An old ax to grind here - why don't we have all our gardening badges showing? Let's get this updated like the other badge activities.

      5. How about a more international flavor? There are a lot of things grown around the world that most of us have never heard of - lets give ourselves something new and surprising to grow.

I like gardening. It has its many quirks. I'm sure KI will fix them which will create a lot more quirks. So, is it me or is it KI?

Re: What do you think of Gardening?

They fix the optimization issue that will give you single digit fps when you care for your plants yet? Or is that still an unofficial punishment for those that stack?

More ultra plants would be cool. Not really sure what happened to them. They sort of went the same way that most features go: introduced then dropped not long after. It's a shame; I used to really enjoy getting the occasional ultra seed. It was the only thing that offered up some spice to the repetitive nature of farming.

Re: What do you think of Gardening?

I'll admit it has gotten rather dull. KI has really let it go. There are many, many seeds that need to put to bed. They provide nothing valuable to anyone. We need to be getting 2-3 new seeds with every new world. If a new world brings new spells, bundles, packs, training points, housing, eventually fish then why not seeds. We also need an experience increase. We've been sitting on 20 forever. I also do not like how all my badges disappeared years ago. I'd like to have those back.

Like most, I keep small garden going for my megas and that is all. No experimenting, no nothing. It's lost its shine.

Or what about hybrids? What if growing two different seeds beside each other gave a chance at harvesting a hybrid seed of those two plants? A similar effect to how some pollen blows in the wind to pollenate other plants of the same species, it's wiz afterall, they'd be able to pollenate any plant not within the same species. Ya know? We can already pet hatch with any pets not within the same species.

      Examples:

Growing an Ivy Leage plant beside a Pink Dandelion could yield a Pink Ivy Leage plant.

Growing a Couch Potato plant beside an Evil Magma Peas plant could yield an Evil Couch Peas plant.

Cool Re: What do you think of Gardening?

I enjoy gardening, but there are a few issues I think could use some attention:

I do not think it is fair to have such valuable gardening spells locked to certain quests in certain worlds. Many, if not most, need access to those spells long before they even reach that world.

On the "Plant All" spell, I would like to see it changed to have a control circle like other spells. Many times, I use it, and seeds end up planted in other plots by mistake.

Now that we have Pet Training, Fishing AND Gardening, we really need to separate the energy globes. You just simply can not do everything you want with the limited energy of one globe UNLESS the amount of energy of that globe is SERIOUSLY increased.

That could be some really nice flavor and would go a long way to injecting some variety.

Say, if plant X and Y and an empty plot are within range 5 meters then there exists a chance that a combination plant Z will appear within the empty plot should it allow.

Sounds cool enough. Using the above system you could possibly get hybrids in places you don't want them—a sort of "weeds" mechanic.

If KI does do something like this, I really really hope they do not announce the combinations and instead leave it up for the community to find.
