It's possible to fish for Couch Potatoes, but I cannot begin to fathom the sheer amount of time required to dredge up a full garden of 69. It just simply isn't feasible, and besides- nobody should be forced into fishing for hours on end just so that they can begin the arduous process of pet hatching!

Just because you yourself don't like Fishing doesn't mean it's not a viable alternative for someone else who does. Most people can't fish for hours, because they don't have the Energy to do so.

Except this weekend - it's Free Fishing!

I enjoy fishing, but I just feel that it's unrealistic to expect Players to fish for hours on end each day just to amass enough Couch Potato seeds to get started. And to force kids into these insane grinds so that they can advance in the game's class system is just terrible!

I guess I'm not understanding why you picture someone not doing anything else but fishing for Couch Potatoes? No one needs a complete stacked garden of 69 Couch Potatoes in order to play the game, or "advance in the game's class system" and the healthiest way to play is to choose this and that, take breaks, set small goals and not focus obsessively.

The kiosk is a tool, among several others, whereby a Wizard character can obtain a desirable pet for their game. It is not the be-all, end-all solution to getting a great pet during week one of game play.

You may not need a full garden of 69 seeds to get started, but I'd argue that at 15-25 is a baseline you should start with. With droprates being so low and the inability to breed fishing/energy pets, it'll still take a copious amount of time to fish up that many seeds! The bottom line is that you will needa garden of at least 30-40 seeds to advance through this games class system and actually be able to succeed in PvE/PvP, and the sheer amount of time nessacary for that is simply egregious. Sure, you can take breaks and go at a slow pace, but that'll take even longer and having a decent pet is out of the question for a long time.

So many aspects of this game are locked behind hours upon hours of monotonous grinding, so I'm always a little confused as to why Players advocate for it. Not only does it set unhealthy expectations (Cough cough Deckathalon cough), it erodes the core gameplay of Wizard101. Wizards are expected to either fess up hundreds of dollars, grind for eternity, or take it slow and never get anywhere.

Even before the Spring Pet Update last year, the Kiosk's existence didn't equate to perfect pets in a week. However, it helped address a massive stumbling block young Wizards run into when they're trying to train pets. I wouldn't argue that it made the game 'too easy' or that it was 'unnecessary,' since hatching was already hard enough beforehand.
The great Kiosk nerf is well summarized by this meme:
