Does it make sense that all new spells are learnable at lvl 42?

I'm, like the rest of the community, have been loving the spell updates, but something is bothering me:

      1. Why are the spells learnable at level 42? Not that I'm complaining, it just feels...too easy? Lol

      2. Storm wing adds a 25% storm bubble, but bubbles/star auras were introduced in celestia...like at level 50+.
It completely messes the game flow, which kinda bothers me idly why lol

Thumbs down Re: Does it make sense that all new spells are learnable at lvl 42?

These spells were added only with PvP in mind, so I'd guess that KingsIsle doesn't want low level Warlords gaining access to them. Then again, who can say what their reasons are for anything nowadays, what with Fire having more damage than Storm, these sloppy buff nerfs, lack of Classic Crown Sales and sensible business decisions, the level requirement for these spells might just be completely arbitrary!

Re: Does it make sense that all new spells are learnable at lvl 42?

I also took issue with how seemingly impetuous the decision was to give the spells at Level 42. There are plenty of gaps between level 20 and 50 that those spells would fit nicely in. But to gain 2 (in some cases 3) spells at one level seems lame.

If they want to give it out, I'd honestly think they'd be great additions at around Mooshu, since that's when spells lull and I think it'd be an appropriate enough level for PvE and PvP. Sometime between 33 and 45, but not overlapping other spells. I'd consider 36 or 40 honestly. If they're going to make the spells overlap, the bubbles should all be taught at level 33.

As for the spellements, one of the reasons I hated Stormwing is because it uses an aura, which was previously ONLY used by the star school. Many players won't know the mechanic, since auras aren't taught until level 50.

I would've changed the aura to a timed-blade. It'd be the same concept of an aura (blade isn't 'consumed' until after the 4 rounds are up) without using an aura. That way it can be combatted with disarm, steal charm, etc and still fit into storm's school identity. The idea of countering with supernova, being the ONLY direct counter to it, just seems awful design-wise. The Devs will never convince me to PvP if they keep making design decisions like this.

The PvP community complains about bubble wars and shrike not having counters but may-cast auras and Stormwing's aura aren't problematic?! It's been 2 weeks of Test and they still haven't updated the description on the card.

I wish I could trust their Design team while they're making all these changes, but I just do not understand where their heads are at. Maybe they could consider making a better counter to auras then? And then make it available at a low enough level? And make the tcs auctionable?

one of the things i noticed about KI over the years was everytime they add a new world they nerf the previous one or give items that make it easier for wizards to progress faster or even solo it. a good example was a few years ago i was helping some low levels with the holiday halloween instances . i noticed something that a level 15 wizard had a pack wand that could let her morph with moon spells.

again things get nerfed and there are fewer people to help them out at that level. one of the reasons you no longer see puzzles where it needs two or more wizards to do anymore.

Re: Does it make sense that all new spells are learnable at lvl 42?

Stormwing is like storm's hephaestus, but it gives a 4-turn aura instead of bubble control.

The thing is, no one uses hephaestus at legendary (I think?). Cause it has an odd 5-pips instead of 4 pips like brimstone.

But it's literally 1 more pip for a bubble instead of a trap. There's so much more combo potential since it doesn't get stopped by shields, since dots work with bubbles but not brimstone.

      @Eric Stormbringer
Part of the problem is that most of the original staff of KI has moved on from its original crew. With the exception of Falmea and Greyrose, I'm not sure how many others remain to this day.

Another reason that spells stop at L42, was because when the game was introduced in 2008, Mooshu was the last world in the 1st Arc. Shortly after I joined in June 2009, Dragonspyre was added as the end of Arc 1, but KI never revisited adding spells in which confused many.

Correction: I think spells stop at L58, not L42; but the concern is the same. I think I asked Dworgyn about it one time and he related that there was an issue with the game that they never fixed.

Another change that occurred with Dragonspyre, is that Briskbee Tower, doing the 3 quests for the Storm professor and restoring the Celestia Key were no longer required as mandatory to enter Celestia when it came online in the 2nd Arc.

Honestly, KI missed a golden opportunity in not having our professors in Ravenwood offer the spells, instead of sending us on spell quests to trigger the new spells being given.

Re: Does it make sense that all new spells are learnable at lvl 42?

I thought it looked odd seeing them next to Level 42 spells which are supposed to be each school's most powerful trainable spell. I would've made them trainable from the school trees so that they actually have a purpose other than giving us mostly useless treasure cards. Hopefully more of these spells are added in the future and are given out at different levels starting from maybe level 25-30+ since it doesn't feel right for spells that do 100 damage to be level 42+.
