Re: Test Realm is open! "Spring 2021 Update"

When I was new it stood out to me that my life wizard's blade was 40%, compared to storm's 30% when storm was the damage school back in the day.

With stacking sharpened blades, item card blades, life and death and ice get a ton of extra damage.

My life wizard is in arc 2.

      I'll compare life vs storm for a mob with 3.8k health. 50% blade + 45% itemblade + forest lord + dmg boost = 1.5 * 1.45 * (620+300) * 1.9 = 3801
      40% blade + 35% + storm lord + dmg boost = 1.4 * 1.35 * (690+300) * 2.2 = 4116
(I get +300 enchant from amulet colossal. I don't know storm gear stats so it's just a guess.)

vs. bosses I just stack a few blades then stack feints, so my forest lord can oneshot the boss and minion.
      Life: 1.5*1.45*1.4*1.75*1.7*1.7*1.9 * (620+275) = 26,188

      Storm: 1.4*1.35*1.3*1.75*1.7*1.7*2.2 * (690+275) = 26,381
This isn't fair since storm would be able to tempest for more dmg.
      10 pip Tempest: 1.4*1.35*1.3*1.75*1.7*1.7*2.2 * (720+275) = 29,388

Vs. bosses in azteca within 18k health
      Life: 1.5*1.45*1.75*1.7*1.7*1.9 * (620+275) = 18,706
      Storm: 1.4*1.35*1.75*1.7*1.7*2.2 * (690+275) = 20,293

The difference in dmg is negligible since normal bosses in azteca only have 18k health. This is comparing dmg school to heal school. In 3rd arc storm gets better damage spells than life, but for 2nd arc life doesn't fall behind. In 2nd arc the identities of damage schools and support schools aren't preserved with the current blades.

Allow me to more thoroughly explain why equalizing every Blade, Trap, and Bubble is a poor idea.

A Storm Wizard can usually hit and kill within the first two rounds of combat, whereas an Ice Wizard must commit several rounds to bladestacking. Blade for Blade, Storm will always deal more damage than Ice, because they have greater base/percentage damage. Within a few rounds of combat, a Thaumaturge can stack enough buffs to match an unboosted Storm in damage- this is more than fair.

The Storm school centers around a glass cannon archetype, while the Ice School is about a tanky playstyle. Diviners sacrifice survivability for the convenience of hitting hard and fast, whereas Ice gives up their time for surer hits. This is why Ice Wizards need and deserve greater buffs- not only to match Storm for damage, but so that it doesn't take even longer to build up a solid hit!
I disagree with this. The Ice school should never match Storm's damage with the same number of blades; that completely ruins the purpose of Ice's dpp being lower than Storm's. Standardizing blades makes it so Ice will never catch up to Storm if they both have the same number of blades present. That is good. Ice's benefits are that it has the highest base health, can obtain the highest resist, and can obtain the highest block. Ice is deliberately designed to have low damage, and if you want to be able to quickly do higher damage with your hits, then do not play as Ice. That is not what the school is supposed to be. Check out this article that Ravino wrote for FinalBastion about the issue.

I think the problem is that the schools have been heavily diluted for the past several years, to the point where they're all pretty much identical and play the same. People got so used to being able to deal heavy damage as an Ice while also enjoying its other defensive benefits, while forgetting that this is not what the school is supposed to be. There isn't supposed to be a perfect school; all of them should be imperfect and attract people for the inherent advantages that each has. Thankfully with this Test Realm, we can go back to that.

One of these is a TC death blade. The other is a death blade which has a TC sharpened blade which I got from the sword fern. Can you tell the difference? Because I sure can't anymore. The change in blade values is actually rather miniscule, though the dark pact change ranks up there as one of the best changes (also the unannounced change to sacrifice), but this here is the main problem I have. Sure, there's that window that shows all of the blades and traps and other effects we have on at the moment, but there's no way to tell what blade that is unless you use it, and chances are it will be a duplicate (unless you have exactly one of each of these in your deck). Thankfully, that item blade is a blue card, so I can distinguish it from the others.

As someone who mains an ice wiz and solos 99% of a world (only needing help on final bosses and gobblestone's gross king in Karamelle), I honestly admit that I only stack blades depending on the situations. Most of the time I just spam hits when I get a ton of pips and no blades are showing, especially when I have shrike up (basically hit it till it dies and/or I'm out of pips and no wand hits are showing). Other times I might need a couple of blades to help ensure a kill. In the case of trying to get my poor myth get her Grandmaster hat (that I swear I had at one point), I'll stack blades until I feel she's dealt enough damage to get decent drops. Against Paradox I stack blades while waiting for my turn to hit. I don't really use my elemental blades (which I only just trained a couple years ago) too often. It honestly took me a while to train sharp, potent, and I went until somewhere in Khrysalis before I even thought about training any damage enchants. That was well after Khrysalis even came out since I didn't have membership nor crowns to buy areas. I mostly use my pet Snow Beast for the blade instead of my enchanted armament pet I recently made.

Even with my high damage (which I boosted with jewels instead of going with the pierce everyone wants), I still run into people who laugh at me whenever I say I wouldn't mind being the main hitter. That's why I quit running Fellspawn and I became a solo runner a long time ago in the first place (aside from the "holier than thou" attitude that storm and fires gave me and my refusal to train what I deem a useless spell called feint that I don't even use on my death wizards to play a supporter). I sacrificed defense and critical block for offense so I my side deck is full of nothing but fortify and tower shields for survival. Even with those treasure cards and nearly 10k health, I still can die pretty easily like a storm. A nerf to my blades is going to hurt, so I guess I better start getting used to throwing my rarely used traps into my deck. I'm not going to worry about the bubble since I haven't used that since... I can't remember when I stopped using it.

This is spot on for me. It's no accident that ice has dominated PvP for many years, since they were given twice the Health of a storm wizard, much more natural resistances, and nearly the same damage ability. I've played a storm wizard for many years, but rarely encounter other storm wizards with any rank to speak of. My deck has always been biased towards dealing with ice wizards. Back when team dueling existed, Ice teams dominated. Honestly, the Ice school has been the "I win" school for so long, folks believe it's their birthright to easily do anything.

Thanks! I hadn't even mentioned how long I went without a "good pet" before making one, nevermind how long I went in certain gear before finally upgrading. I have to admit that a lot of the time I went under my own power with what I had available to me since I always wanted to have more offense. It wasn't easy, but who said anything had to be?

We take for granted what we have now (jewels, pets, and even mounts with stats), but before all of them we just had gear and whatever pet we liked, spell or no spell. Choosing the stats we wanted meant remembering what we sacrificed and figuring out how to balance everything. Grandmaster gear was the most popular pre-Celestia, although I swapped out my boots for another pair I liked better.

Bring those into play and now all of the schools have the advantage to become better in something else than their original purpose or even boost a lacking stat. They just got to take advantage of what we've been given and think outside of the meta box. It's not that hard for people to keep their school identity, but I feel a lot of people have decided to make a mainstream meta with very specific spells (ice to tower, death to feint), stats, and making certain schools play certain parts that I think that's where the problem lies. I don't think it ever really used to be like this since I don't remember anyone asking who had feints or compared damage to determine the main hitter. It just used to be a team effort.

Mind you, I'm talking about PvE since I haven't done PvP since Celestia came out and broke it with the introduction of critical stats. Remember when storm would critical like mad? Actually, we can always give storm back their broken critical. That sounds pretty fair to me since storm is supposed to be the damage school! Just keep it to us and not the mobs and bosses, please because I'd really like to live
