Do you think it's ok for our wizards to learn cheats?

      Title says it all.

Similarly to how bosses have cheats as reactionary to us doing certain things, do you think we should be able to learn cheating too. It'll look like if an enemy does something, then our wizards will react with a cheat. It's also worth saying, by cheating, I mean something that won't be too extreme and will only apply to PvE. I'm assuming the reason why we haven't learned cheats since Celestia (or even earlier in Wysteria if you've done that world) is because we're supposed to be integritous play-by-the-rules kinds of players and probably cheating would be against our Ravenwood/Arcanum classes lol

There is a saying to be wise as serpents and gentle as sheep.

It means to know how your enemy operates, yet not becoming like them.

Case in point about 3 days ago. I was fighting Deacon in Pirate 101, and after 3 or 4 tries I had no idea how to beat him.

I waited a day or 2 before posting my issue, because I had no idea how to continue on. It never occurred to me that skeleton allies were hiding in barrels. I was advised to release them and they would handle the clockworks as my team advanced on Deacon to defeat him.

If I wouldn't have been directed to a post on how to defeat Deacon, I would have avoided continuing on in Pirate, until I gave it another go.

I agree, being ready for those that cheat is good, but I won't drop to their level when I knw how to use my Wizards spells to overcome them,

Re: Do you think it's ok for our wizards to learn cheats?

While the games are slightly different between W101 and P101, the bosses in P101 aren't really known to cheat.

Deacon was the first boss I had that did anything remotely like cheat in bringing in reinforcements during battle and I was at my wits end over him. By my 3rd try I was screaming mad about needing reinforcements because I was getting close to defeating him, but it never occurred to me allies were hidden in barrels to be allies to the Pirate.

Sometimes when we are advancing in W101/P101, we need the assistance or advice from others on how to defeat an enemy.

I don't consider it cheating when advice helps calm a player down from being angry over a freakin game. Most of us get so involved in our gaming, that a setback isn't taken well. And it is hard to accept at times, that stopping and closing out the game is sometimes badly needed to gain perspective.

Cheats were created to allow a poorly designed AI to make up with us logic brains opponents and offer some sort of challenge to fights that would otherwise be too linear and boring (blade, blade, trap, trap, hit & kill).

If you apply the translation "cheating"="strategy" then you can say that there are cheats available to wizards as well, and it's just that most of us play linearly (= same strategy everywhere) rather than thinking about special-cases applications.

Just look at the huge proportion of players having less than 10 different cards in their deck! and they want to beat all the spiral with that

I'm now going to make a few examples of wizard cheats, but I will remain generic least some devs read this thing and decide, in one of their ruefully strokes of Genius, to "handle" them.

but first let's define what a cheat is: the most common cheats are behaviour that challenge an existing rule.

When luska cast a continuous smoke, or a free spell that counters whoever isn't smoked, it is breaking two rules: the rule of rounds (you get to cast a spell only when it is your turn to play) and the rule of numbers (you have one spell per round). Those are cheats.

In that sense, you have the opportunity to break some rules as well, as long as you know it: for example, you can cast an unprotected blade in a no-blades area, or a trap in a no-traps battle; you can cast two spells in a row; you can remove barriers that are not meant to be broken, or break a spell that was already cast; and there are a few other rules that you can tweak or break in specific cases. And you can even define some rules of your own that will break the AI's strategy.

All this, rather than "cheating" is "strategy".

It means you need to prepare according to the battle, taking into accout unique effects some spells or items have, that you may not be used to handle.

And truth to be said, some of those effects were probably not made by design; but they are there, have been for years, and in some cases you can see that devs took them into account to beat an area; so use them without regret.

With all this said, no, wizards don't need "automatic cheats" (I guess that is what you meant: something that act on its own creating a new rule) because that would defy the point of having a creative AI that makes the game less linear.

TL:DR; we are not computers, so we don't need them.

Re: Do you think it's ok for our wizards to learn cheats?

We kind of already have cheats, in the form of maycasts from our wands and pets, and recently we got a much less RNG version in willcasts. I would love to see an expansion of non-RNG ways to expand on this to add more variety to gameplay. Something like "The first three times that you remove a Trap with Cleanse Ward, give that target a 30% Shield of the same school as that Trap." This particular example isn't very good, since it could also fit as a Spellement path and also because it doesn't really open up any new game strategies. It just buffs a spell that doesn't see much use. It has a limited number of uses so that this doesn't shut off an entire mechanic of the game, which I included even though this one comes with the requirement of casting a certain spell. If there was such a cheat to automatically Disarm a blade an enemy casts, it would be necessary to limit it so that enemies would actually still be able to use Blades (This is also another bad example, none of these should be purely defensive, IMO. They should encourage a new way to play the game).

I can't stress enough how much care would be needed into designing such mechanics, but it is something I think could be very cool if implemented well.

Re: Do you think it's ok for our wizards to learn cheats?

I play many other games like Skyrim and one time while living at my bosses' house, we were playing Skyrim and he got bent out of shape that I was looking online for anything that was suggested as treasure and/or special gear to be found (cause I don't like missing out on things).

He told me that he considered that to be cheating, because I couldn't find out anything by myself, then it wouldn't be a fair game.

Honestly, when playing games, I don't like missing free gear in any games, and I would feel stupid if I missed out on it.

And there have been times where I have messed up and had to restart from a previous save.

Figuring out how to play and defeat an enemy in any game is part of strategy. I don't consider it cheating in order to find out how to win and advance after I have spun my wheels trying to do it and failing several times.

Re: Do you think it's ok for our wizards to learn cheats?

I voted no. They way I see it, as long it does not effect another player, then its not cheating.

May-cast and will- cast gear and pets are something that is offered to everyone. Those who have might have a slight advantage over those who do not, but it does not mean those who do not have them, might have better strategy over all.

I rather not have my wizards do cheats like how the Bosses do, even though at times I wish I do. In time we all learn ways in defeating these type of Bosses. We then share in how we do it. This is not cheating, but sharing resources.

If you make things too easy, what happens players fly through things then get bored with the game, either stop playing till new content comes out or complains when are we going to see new content, then KI rushes it out leaving a lot of bugs to be fixed when it goes live. So no, I rather not have my wiz learn cheats. lol

I wouldn't mind having this ability, though I think to be fair you would have to get through a certain part of the campaign (be it main or side) first in order to use them, and you also couldn't use it on a boss you haven't faced before on that character. Basically it could be like a New Game+.

Wizards should be able to overcome adversity without resorting to cheating.

You know, good over evil, darkness into the light, and all that.

Some folks say, if you're not cheating, you're not trying, and it's not cheating if you don't get caught.

I don't want to be part of that group.

      Just my thoughts.
