It’s a sad day here in our house.
Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our beloved greyhound.
He was almost 12 years old and he had cancer. We adopted him when he was just two.
It was a horrible day, which ended with me sitting with him on the floor and crying my eyes out. Every time you have a pet, you think that the end won’t be as hard as the last time, and you’re always wrong.

~All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us~
Oh Arwen. I am so sorry to hear about your greyhound. We are going through the same situation here at home. Our 13-year-old Boxer Mix, Chance, is currently on pain medication, but the vet told us that he is living on borrowed time. He was also a "rescue puppy" who came to us at two.
No matter how old the pet, or what kind of pet, or how many other pets we have lost, it is never easy. And I actually feel that it is harder than the last time, because we know what is coming.
The comfort that I receive after going through the grieving process is knowing that they are now at peace, resting, or maybe even running around up there with all of their brothers and sisters who went before them.
Remember the good times too. There were so many of them. Take Care.

My heart goes out to you as I shed tears with you. It was 8 years ago last March that I lost my beloved Little Girl, and every time I think of her my throat hurts, my heart feels empty and I think of all the times I spent with that magical cat. Like your Greyhound, she was a rescue and so the bond was/is even greater.
I still remember when we first became friends and you told me about your "puppy"...and what a very special dog he was. As you say, each time we have to say goodbye to a treasured friend/child it does indeed get harder; but at the same time we can think of all the love and joy we brought into each others life...and that we were there to rescue each other.
There are really few words that can lessen the loss, and none that will take it away; but please remember that there are many of us who are here for you who understand first hand what your going through...and we are all just a PM away.
With my deepest sympathy, love and hugs,
V

“Maybe someday we could become friends. Friends who ride majestic, translucent steeds, shooting flaming arrows across the bridge of Hemdale.”
I don't know why I don't buy more piñatas. Like, right now, I would love to beat the heck out of something, and then sit around and eat a bunch of candy.![]()
