Have you celebrated your Birthday for this year?

My Birthday is in August, so I used "My Age" as what I will be this year in August.

Success! Once I tried with my age based on my coming birthday (In September), it worked. As amazing as this is, I think that the fast someone actually came up with it is even more amazing. I love to try to see how other peoples minds work and process information...but this kind of calculation is just mind boggling.

It's the simple life that I miss ---

Oh so do I. I could fill up my gas tank for $5, Buy two weeks worth of groceries for $50.

But in reality, it wasn't really any simpler back then. It still took as much of your pay check to buy everything. I found the first W2 of my first "real" job recently and the gross I filed taxes on was $6K. The first new car I bought cost $4,000 which amounted to about 10 months of my earnings. The last new car I bought cost me only 7 months of my pay check. I think what we look back on so fondly is the fact we were younger, healthier and didn't have near so many responsibilities or worries. As Bruce Springsteen sings about, back in our "Glory Days".

My Grandmother (Born 1900) had many special "insights" and this post reminded me of one:

Look around the farm and garden; look at all the wonderful and tasty foods and flowers that spring from the ground. Now remember, all these things are the result of my spreading all the farm animal manure and compost to make the soil rich enough for such abundance. Keep these thought in mind when things are difficult and always remember the best things can come from making the most of some of the smelliest of things...that was Gods plan, to always take that next step and smell all the wonders along the way.

It is only when we are between a rock and a hard place that we take the time to look for an answer where we would never think of finding one...and in those places are the greatest of wonders.

Just a side note: Those special places to look for those wonders are your friends and family; never forget you are loved by someone and are never really alone.

Thank you so much for bringing Iz back to me. As many know, I spent over a decade managing a hotel in Waikiki, Hawaii; one of the very special things that I miss was being able to walk to the beach and listen to the local performers.

I met Iz a few years before I moved to Sacramento, and would sit and listen to him perform any chance I could (Sometimes in his parents bar on the beach, or other times as he watched the surfers in the morning). To hear such a sweet. gentle, wonderful and soothing voice come out of such a big man would make you step back in awe. As big as he was (When I knew him he was about 500lbs), his heart and soul were even bigger. He was an equal mix of love and mischief and rarely was without a smile in public.

I can't encourage you all enough to search him out on You Tube and listen to his voice, especially when you need some magic to give you strength.

Aloha, Mea Aloha Bruddah Iz, I miss you and cherish every song and smile.

Amazon Dash Carts

With the Amazon Dash Cart you can skip the checkout line and roll out to your car when you are done.

The Dash cart uses a combination of computer vision algorithms and sensor fusion to help identify items placed in the cart - simply grab an item, scan it on one of the Dash Cart cameras, and place it in the cart like you normally would.

Krogers has had something similar for a couple years now but theirs is a hand held scanner that scans the bar code. All these devices are interesting, but, they eliminate the need for employees. Funny how with needing less people, the prices still keep going up.
