Richard Jay Belzer (August 4, 1944 – February 19, 2023) was an American actor, stand-up comedian, and author. He was best known for his role as John Munch in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
He had suffered from circulatory and respiratory issues for years.

Little known fact - Richard Belzer and Henry Winkler are cousins - Yup, The Fonz and Munch are related — Belzer appeared in Winkler's 1982 film Night Shift and Winkler guest-starred in an episode of Law & Order: SVU in 2002.

I was reading about this late last night, and to be honest I didn't know how to react. Law and Order was one of my favorite shows of that genre, and his character always was enjoyable for me to watch. He was one of those actors I saw and knew about, but never thought about...until now.

I decided to do a bit of research and discovered he was also a stand up comic. So I went did a search and watched a few of his routines from when he was much younger and discovered such a great and forgotten talent.

Dear Richard, please RIP and bring some of that much needed laughter to the Heavens above, Lord know they need it in these troubling times.
