Looking forward to some typical Fall weather, starting with some rain this week. I love rainy days.

In the next week I will start the big job of unpacking and organizing the Halloween and Harvest decorations for the front yard. When I do this each year, I find great joy thinking of all the smiles it will bring to the children (And young at heart).

October is a special time when all the "junk" of the year gets set aside and people have fun and relax. Only when we are relaxed are we able to fully appreciate and enjoy the special blessing that come in November (Thanksgiving) and December (The Special Holiday season known by so many names we can not list them all).

LOL, very true in many ways. I wonder...How many members of Central remember not having push button phones, cell phones and instead having to use rotary phones (The kind where you have to dial the phone by spinning the dial with holes in it)?

I miss not getting 'thank you' cards in the mail, or birthday cards and Christmas cards. I remember when we used to string the Christmas cards and hang them in the living room, near the tree. And so many other things ---

Yeah, I agree. Thanks to new technology, the pen and paper approach is all but dead.

I have also noticed a huge change in written communication as a whole. When you had to sit down and write on paper, you tended to think carefully about what you were writing. Now in the age of speed, not only are words being abbreviated, but so is the context and emotion.

About a month ago, my neighbors 9 year old daughter came over to show me her mini essay that she got an A+ on. What amazed me was not only did she have to do it in hand writing, but he penmanship was excellent. When I complimented her on it, she smiled and said mommy spends a lot of time helping her write pretty. What a wonderful mommy.

I recently learned that some schools do not even teach penmanship / cursive writing.

That is so very sad. All the more reason for the rest of you parents to take the time to sit with your kids and do real cards as an excuse to learn to write nicely. Make it a fun craft thing such as making your own Valentines cards, etc.
