The Fourth of July isn't all about barbecues and fireworks. It is also about freedom, liberty, and the birthday of our country.

If you love chocolate, National Chocolate Wafer Day on July 3rd allows you to indulge in a delicately sweet cookie with a history. Have one for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

Also called sugar wafers, these delicate snacks melt in your mouth. Made since the mid-1800s in the United States, makers called the cookies many names; wafer cookies, sugar wafers, sugar biscuits, fairy wafers.

These cookies make an excellent addition to ice cream. Use them as an ingredient in cakes and cheesecakes. Use them to decorate, too. If you prefer pie, crushed wafers make a delicious chocolate crust.

While you’re picking up a few to celebrate, be sure to share with a friend.

The weekend has been hard on the dogs with the Fireworks. Hopefully, tonight will be the last night.
"How do I calm my pets down during fireworks?"
Close windows and curtains to muffle the sound of fireworks and blackout your doggy safe haven so they can't see any flashes outside. Put on some music or TV to mask the firework sounds. Ignore the firework noises yourself. Play with a toy to see if your dog wants to join in, but don't force them to play.

It’s so very hard for dogs. They don’t understand what’s happening and why their humans can’t make it all better.

Even as we speak our dog is wedging his head between the TV console and the wall. For some reason it’s his “safe space”.
