The sudden ringing of a bell caught my attention. It bellowed five times, then ceased, echoing in the misty distance. "Any idea what that's a signal of. . .," I sighed to nobody in particular.
Above, there came a rather friendly call, followed by the sound of rapidly moving air. "Dinner! Dinner! Tonight is the great Welcoming Feast! Please return to your dorms for more formal dress and come down to the Great Hall promptly at seven!" A boy on a flying broom circled in the air, calling this message over and over.
(Okay, so the way formalwear works: it's kind of a surprise dress that the headmaster lays out for the student that's kind of tied in to their personality. So... Make it whatever you want! ^.^
Spoiler alert: It's also a ball~ :D)
The Dining Hall looked horribly different. Candles floated above everyone's heads, the night sky twinkling in the windows. The tables were piled high with an assortment of foods, some of which included unicorn horns and chicken and soups. Little sprites and ghosts whirled about, laughing and conversing with the students. There was a heavy pair of oak doors at the back of the room, not yet opened. A shorter woman and a dark and ashen man waited outside of them, not allowing admission.
Everything seemed... Enhanced.
Suddenly, a shower of white glitter of some sort fell from the ceiling. A booming laugh shook the walls, and a man in magnificent ivory attire floated down, light blonde hair flowing behind him. He wielded a crystal staff adorned with feathers - ah, the headmaster. "Welcome, everyone! Please have a seat - we'll begin the feast in a few short moments."
