Contents

Gameplay

The goal of Grub Guardian is to use your Pet and your Guardians to protect the Goons from getting to your treats. You begin each game with 10 treats, and if all of the treats get gobbled up by the Goons, you will lose that game. If you succeed, you will earn a medal for that Map.

Playing for Pet Experience

When you are playing Grub Guardian to earn Pet Experience, you will use up Energy, which does affect the wizard you are using to train your pet in-game. Depending on the level of your pet (from Baby to Mega) will determine how much Energy you use to play as well. This amount is how much you would normally use to use that pet in a Minigame in the Pet Pavilion. If you fail to succeed in defending your treats, your Energy will not be wasted if you retry the Map. Your Energy will be gone if you quit the Map and do not succeed. Either way if you win or lose, your Pet will gain Experience, and you'll also be able to feed it a snack in the end, just like the end of a Pet Minigame.

Playing for Wizard101 Prizes

When you are playing Grub Guardian for Wizard101 in-game prizes, you won't use up any Energy, and you can play again and again for lots of neat prizes. The more difficult the Map, the higher the rewards earned, and the better medal/score you have will also increase your reward income. You do not need to enter any codes to obtain the reward you received in Grub Guardian, it'll automatically be there when you click on the Gift Icon in-game.

Silver

(Basic) Silver.png Silver is the money you earn while playing Grub Guardian. You can purchase additional Guardians by spending this Silver. By selecting a square on the Map, a list of available Guardians will appear. To construct a specific Guardian, select the Guardian type icon, but you must have enough Silver to buy the Guardian to construct it.

(Basic) Spending Silver.png

As you defeat Goons, you will gain additional Silver to buy new Guardians and even upgrade current ones.

(Basic) Earning Silver.png

All Guardians EXCLUDING Pet Guardians can be upgraded for Silver or sold to gain more Silver. You can bring up these options by clicking one of your Guardians. All Guardians (excluding Pet Guardians) can be upgraded up to a maximum of 5 times.

Goons

Goons are the monsters that are trying to steal your treats.

(Basic) Grub Guardian Goon.png

Goons will generate from the Portal(s) on the map, and will follow the path to try to get to your Food Dish. If a Goon reaches the Food Dish, you will lose a Snack. Some Maps have multiple Portals and paths to get to your dish, make sure you cover them all!

Maps

Maps are the different levels in Grub Guardian. If it's your first time playing Grub Guardian, you will automatically have 2 Maps unlocked already; Unicorn Way (which is a tutorial), and Firecat Alley. You can unlock more challenging and better reward yielding Maps by beating current ones you have unlocked. Some maps must be bought with Crowns. See this page to see which Maps can be bought in the Grub Guardian Crown Shop (Maps with a * next to them can only be bought with Crowns.). Certain Maps restrict you from using certain Guardians, so if you get too used to using a specific kind of Guardian, a Map restricting it could push you out of your comfort zone, however, Crown bought Guardians can be used on any Map.

Guardians

Guardians are the towers that defend your Treats against the attacking Goons. There are a variety of different Guardians, and some even have special abilities that set themselves aside from the others. You must use the towers to defeat or even just delay the Goons from reaching your Grubs. To view about how to purchase/upgrade towers, you can review the Silver section. Note that some Guardians must be bought with Crowns. See this page to see which Guardians can be bought in the Grub Guardian Crown Shop. If you purchase a Guardian once, you will always be able to purchase them again with your Silver. (Guardians with a * next to them can only be bought with Crowns.) Crown bought Guardians can be used on any Map as well.

Pet Guardians

Pet Guardians can be stronger than other Guardians depending on it's Level. The more mature your Pet is in-game, the stronger a Guardian it will be while playing Grub Guardian. Depending on the School of the Pet will also depend on its special ability it provides (you can see the school of your pet by looking at the pedestal at its "feet").

(Basic) Pet Guardian Levels.png

If you are playing while you aren't logged in, or you don't have a Pet equipped at all, you can select one of 3 substitute Pets (A Dragon; Fire, a Piggle; Myth, or a Lightning Bat; Storm), however these will only be at a maturity Level of Baby. You will need to have your pet at a high maturity Level to pass some Maps. Note that Pet Guardians take up a 2x2 area of space, while normal Guardians only take up a 1x1 area of space.

(Basic) Pet Guardian Spacing.png

Before playing a game, while you are selecting your towers, you may temporarily upgrade your Pet to either Epic or Mega for an amount of Crowns. Your Pet will stay upgraded like this until you have earned a medal for that particular Map.
