Hey folks, I wanted to drop a quick note about the pricing model before the game goes live. We’re going to be using a “hybrid model” for Wizard101, which means that the game will be available with limited content for Free (roughly half of Wizard City, and the PvP system which will be coming online shortly after launch.) Players can purchase unlimited access to all of Wizard101’s content in a couple of ways:

- Monthly Subscription. You can buy a recurring subscription for $9.95 per month that gives you full access to the game content, chat systems and other great benefits.
- Pre-paid subscription. You can buy a recurring subscription for 6 months or 12 months at a discounted price.

In addition, we are looking to bring other pricing options online shortly after launch:

- Time for Crowns. In addition, we’re going to allow you to buy pre-paid months using crowns. Initially crowns will be available online, and eventually (through some really cool programs that we haven’t talked about yet) we’ll provide other ways for players to get crowns, as well.
- Other pricing options that will be announced at a later date

We have a lot of exciting stuff coming down the pipe, but the first step is to get the game launched successfully … so to make that happen, we’re going to start with the traditional online game model of subscriptions and a cash shop. I find myself comparing this game to ToonTown a lot and that is mostly because it is the only other game that is similar which I have had extensive experience with. With that said, I do wish there were some similar features and things that I would like to see on W101.

I do disagree with the trial only allowing for half of the Wizard City content. I think that free trial players can be restricted in other ways, such as not being able to use secure chat, be unable to buy certain items, and not being able to access the dorms to store items. Those are just some of my ideas.

I can't really comment on the discounted prices, since I have no idea what they will be and since I already pay $9.95 for multiple ToonTown accounts and have no intention of cancelling them, whether I will be able to continue with unlimited access to Wizard101 remains to be seen at this point. I hope that we will be able to, and I know my son will definitely want to, so we'll see.

Why not make it $5.95 for Beta User, and $9.95 for everyone else? This is what Toontown did

I don't really agree with the pricing system, it really disappointed me when I read the way it was going to be. I pay $160 on another game, which I don't play anymore but continue to pay for all the memories.. I don't really have a ton of time anymore, so I don't want to buy a subscription for a game that I won't play much, but yet can be beaten so easily (as of now).

I like the game, but personally don't think it's worth having a subscription. I have played free games in the past that I liked much more, one of which was Maple Story. I was hoping that W101 would have the system set up sort of like MS. On MS, you pay for NX coins and you can buy special items no one else can. W101 has a system like that, but is also going to make us pay just to finish the game and I don't really agree with that..

I think that we should be able to play and beat the game without paying, and if there were special features given to subscribers that would be fine. However, with the way it is I will not continue to play.

If it had crowns as the main source of income, I would definitely pay for those when I had the money and wanted some new items. However, I do not want to pay $10 a month. I would even consider buying a subscription if it were $5 a month, but the way it is now I have no intentions of playing or buying anything.

Thats why i quit, cuz ppl that dont pay can only do half of wizard city, whats so fun about that? Nothing..

I understand wanting to make money off of it, obviously great game, and people will want to pay to play if they must. BUT, I think that the price is way to much, maybe more like $5.99 a month would be more reasonable, but $9.99 is just too much for this game.

I think though that a free account only getting half of the game is fair, hey its more than we get at ToonTown. I am fine with that part. But the pricing should be reconsidered, I think if it was lower, then more people would pay to play, but a much lower number will play the current price and Wizard 101 won't make AS MUCH as they could.
