I'm pretty sure a lot of players are familiar with that "Too close to max gold" message when you hover over a greyed-out "Sell" button. You can still feed items to your pet, delete extra treasure cards etc., but what if there were a "donate" button, giving something out for free?

Or maybe a special place like Salvation Army where you could drop loads of your stuff (gear, excluding "No Auction", TCs, seeds, reagents etc.) and any player could get that for, say, a quarter of the lowest Bazaar price or even for free, with some daily limit? I can envision even donating some in-game gold to a "world bank", so to speak.

For fairness, a player would not be able to grab items above his or her level, real or gardening (for seeds). And it would work just like the Bazaar - first come, first served.

I have to say, I really like this idea. I do agree that there are things to be worked out. I think one should be, if an item is design for level 50, someone who is level 70 cannot buy it. As pointed out by @Pegasus Unbound there are things that need to be worked out. What I am afraid of, those who will try to make a profit off of this. By making a limit on who can buy it will help reduce this issue, I would think.

It should be in game items only, no crowns gear or pack gear as well.

Basically all the fire gear that I ever get usually goes down the drain or somehow my pet eats them, which I don't want to imagine. I can't make a fie wizard or rather it's far too late for me to try since if I made a fire wizard, it'd have legit nothing to work with as opposed to a myth wizard which I have sort of a lot of stuff for even though I don't have a myth wizard.

If I could just donate that stuff instead, that'd be awesome

Of course, knowing ki, they'd probably do something to make money off of these things like you would have to pay something like 1000-2000 crowns to pick x amount of items

I read the title and the first sentence or so, and for some reason I was picturing that the items would be "donated" to a charity like the Salvation Army at some sort of real-life monetization rate decided by Kingsisle. This would be the sort of idea I could support. It would be great to see something at the end of each month saying that players in the game "donated" the equivalent of $1,000 or something like that.

Since we have so many wizards still begging for packs and such in The Commons, I can't think that giving these folks free or even cheap stuff would be a good idea. Someone would certainly find a way to exploit such a system, I think.

KI needs to introduce one of the below to correct the gold storage issue:

1 -Account bank (Make it a part of the shared bank, and set a higher cap say 500million) or 1bill)

2 -Allow us to trade gold (thus you can store extra on additional/characters accounts)

3 -Or finally as you mentioned, Give us something to donate our gold to, whether it be a "Charity shop" or "Help a Wizard" where people can list gold funding needed and request help, and once funded they receive the gold from whomever (Can be multiple players all towards that one persons goal)) And easily set a limit to say you can ask for help once a week or something. I think that would be easier to do. Make it like a Kickstarter model kiosk.

Any of the above 3 (Loving the sound of #3) would work wonders.

Great idea! While there would be lots of bumps to be evened out I think this is a really smart idea and goes in the direction of "more social interaction" in game that KingsIsle seems to be trying to achieve.

But let's be clear, I'm in favor of anything that lowers the number of people saying "can someone pls gift me a pack???"

I just had the thought about a person donating clothing to a homeless shelter and then Elon Musk (who already has everything and can get anything), at lightning fast speed, taking it before any of the homeless people get it and it strangely reminded me of this thread just because they can. They don't really need it but they'll take it anyways. Honestly that's basically what would happen in this In-Game Charity. In fact, this is already what's happening in the Reagent Tab in the bazaar

And that's why I talked about a daily limit - any free stuff should be limited to reduce abuse. For example, they could introduce a Spiral bank where the likes of me (gardening on all wizards, half of them Couch Potatoes, and some with more than one garden) could donate and some beginner players (say, everyone with less than, say, 20% or their max gold or 100K, whichever is greater) could get up to, say, 10K gold a day. Give the newcomers a chance to get their permanent mount in 5 days, for example...

I just think its difficult to distinguish who is an authentically new player interested in playing the game and is genuinely in need of powerful gear and a player who was just created in a different account for other purposes (like TC holders or trolls- people that created new characters in different accounts to mess around with people without the consequences being held against their main account). The latter obviously don't need that gear and they could possibly take away something that an authentic player would want to have, even if there is a limit. That's essentially wasting the donation. Also there are players with dozens and dozens of accounts that have less than 100k gold that essentially don't do anything other than sit around and spin (those with friendly player status could simply become a permanent marker). There's just so many loopholes in this donation services players could exploit the system just to mess with newcomers...
