Possible complications arise if this is a spell that's liked by shadow trickster. In that case we could have a legit lockdown mechanism with a balance playing a stall centric strat. Ofc with shadow backlash and timer, such a stall strategy would tend to lose but sitting there for 30 minutes isn't exactly fun and interactive gameplay.

EDIT: Nevermind, at 3 copies per reshuffle and it being neutral to trickster, there is no way for this spell to act as a lockout mechanism.

Supernova doesn't remove pips and mana burn is a 5 pip spell....

Before: you pay membership and crowns, the rest is from in-game currency and "free to get with effort".

This: you pay to directly buy a spell and some other spell-enhancements.

It's definitely the implement of P2W, and no rabid here, just cold logic. But yeah, I warned the new company would be doing this. I more and more have the feeling that what they were interested into, when they bought the company, wasn't any aspect of the game, but the huge players base that were potential future customers...

This spell in particular- while undoubtedly p2w- is well balanced and will likely have a very limited impact in PvP. Right now the spell is max 1 copy(and you won't see 2nd and third copies of this spell for months based on the upgrade paths) and maintaining the 3 copy cap and no interaction with trickster(unlike the retired trick spell), will serve to keep it within an acceptable power level.

Having an microtransaction based model isn't necessarily a bad thing and I fully expect MGI to push for more monetization moving forward.

That spell doesn't seem all that strong to me since there's very few copies and using up a turn just for a single regular pip doesn't seem like it will do much for you. I mean sure, pip conversion isn't a natural thing so you're going to be removing a power pip from your opponent but it's not like they will be twiddling their thumbs while you do. They will still be setting up defenses or stacking buffs to advance their game state. Honestly, I would much rather have my opponent use this instead of a blade or shield.

hope i don't get reamed for this opinion, but here goes. i'm hearing a lot of people calling this ptw and therefore bad, and maybe that's true. but i don't understand the surprise. i've run into people in game who are saying they have been away for years, and are coming back because of the sale of the game, to see if it's less ptw.

i can't understand this. if anything, the new owners will be trying to increase revenue from the moment the sale is complete. no company buys another, and is happy with status quo profits. they are paying more than $100 million dollars for this game - they will want to be making money on it, and they will want profits to increase at least some each year. i'm not saying this is good or bad, and it is totally possible they are counting on big increases in players out of the US to account for those profit increases, but i do think they will be doing lots of things to try to get us to open our pocket books.

but the truth is, we can still play without this spell, so we don't have to have it. if you want it, you can buy it, and it's not crazy expensive, so that's nice of them. and probably we will still be able to play without the other extras that will be offered in the future, as well.

i guess my take would be, jury's still out on if i'd even want the spell, but don't be surprised if we see more and more attempts to sell us "extras".

Because after all the "bla-bla, game will be more equilibrated if we undo this and that" that devs dumped on us with their spell remakes, now we get this steal-pip-for-free thing that, of course, is PERFECTLY BALANCED, yes?

I mean, let's put it for argument sake in the infamous PVP where it will be used. Say, me Vs an opponent.

I cast steal pip
he can't use his spell
I cast steal pip
he can't use his spell
I cast steal pip
he can't use his spell
I blast him with all his pips plus mine, then restart casting steal pip while he only gets one pip...

Even if I was to reshuffle, his actions are limited to 1 vs 3 of mine.

Sure, not unbalanced at all. But wait! it's a paying spell, so everything is ok.

Having an microtransaction based model is what made me quit for so long. I didn't see the point in continuing to play a game in which I got fussed at for refusing to gear up using Jade horde packs as a healer. Top tier gear should never be in the crowns shop. period. The best gear in the game should always be earned through game play somehow. I logged in and poked around to see if any changes were made and I did notice that my pets no longer have useless talents on them at all, and poked around some more to see that the Magic mirror is gold only now, so that's a step in the right direction. I haven't done enough in game to see yet if it is actually worth coming back. I also don't pvp. I agree that a spell like that should be pve only, though.

So now the deluxe spellement pack offer isn't giving membership and now they're removing memberships apparently, anyways I see no problem with the steal pip spell because it's still balanced and will still be very hard to pull those cards while in pvp with an maximum of 3 cards but if you think this tilts pvp then I suggest you pvp a little, things like having a bad hand, pip failing, treasure card pull failing also can make you lose besides cards like steal pip and they've already tried changing spells for the better of pvp..this game has always been "unbalanced" and sometimes very pay-to-win, I wouldn't advise this game to any competitive players.

Regarding gear most of the gear that's considered top tier these days comes from The Graveyard dungeon in Castle Darkmoor. There's also dropped and crafted gear from The Catacombs area. Some do still prefer the one-shot dungeon gear though, but aside from that the game is pretty open to mixing and matching these days, which strategy and planning playing a more central role in most high level boss fights these days.
