Shatterhorn useless?

So I get to Karamelle and am excited for the new Ice Spell. However, I am trying to find any use for it. Especially if you are fighting solo. Same pip cost as Weaver, same damage range as Weaver. The difference is I can choose to get a shield from Weaver or a taunt from Shatterhorn. Even if you are playing as a team and want to protect them, why not just use Sentinel. Especially since AoE aren't affected by the taunt, but Sentinel will allow you to take the damage. Not sure what KI was thinking with this mess of a spell.

While true Sentinel allows you to absorb some damage your allies would take it's only 25%. With the taunt from Shatterhorn you're potentially absorbing more while also getting some chip damage in on the foe(s) as well. I think at the end of the day it will come down to which you value more: absorbing 25% immediately or absorbing more later on while also getting some chip damage in as well.

All school spells are like this: same damage as their 5 pip shadow Darkmoor spells, but with a different secondary effect. However, the Karamelle spells can be enhanced with Spellwrighting, which can change up their damage and pip cost.

In the meantime, as Flash33 mentioned, it comes down to preference regarding the secondary effect.

I certainly won't use this as often as I will use Penguins or Cataclysm or Weaver but idk its nice to have for when the situation needs it

That Spellementally upgraded 3-Round Taunt is quite nice, and would be a strong counter both in PvE and PvP! And to those who think it is too strong- our Shadow Pip gain is slow in full Jade gear, which balances out the spell IMHO.

I did see that @Eric Stormbringer had recommended opting for the damage upgrade path, and as long as you're not huge on Jading in PvP I agree. The Taunt effect in this spell isn't too useful in a standard single Wizard versus the world, but it is in line with the Ice school and I am glad to see Taunt being revitalized after lying dormant for over a decade!

I was doing dailies a few days ago and was able to do some road testing of Shatterhorn for Ice and the Salvation Dog for Life.

And the day that my Storm got his, he returned to Khrysalis to do some older quests (I'm a crowns player and am working on opening Karamelle).

Call me crazy, but the rock mouse blasting all your enemies at once is the most beneficial of the Karamelle spells, because the others only hit one enemy; and quite frankly, by Arc 4 if you are slow grinding by hitting all your enemies with single spells it seems quite weird.

I realize that this is a Ice topic, but I am also a person that like to relay experiences that might be beneficial to others.

Shatterhorn is an awesome spell (Cow a bunga DUDE), but not one that I would use traipsing around the Spiral.

Snack Attack is also an aoe, though technically it's not (in terms of triggering certain cheats) since you have to target someone for the negative charm push effect. Same with myth's new spell. Funny thing about that one is that it's supposed to have a chance to confuse someone, but every time I was hit with that spell, I was confused, or someone was if there was more than one person hit.

Matt explained on twitter that the spell always applies the confusion effect. However, the confusion only gives you a 50% of doing something other than what you selected. This is what the "50%" refers to.
