First off, I don't view the deckathalon as a way to 'use up TC.' Not when everyone complains about how much gold it costs to buy all the TC you need in order to be successful.

Second, @Eric Stormbringer, I think you might have a stronger argument if KI wasn't doing the exact same thing with regular gameplay. When Empyrea first came out, they advertised the fight club as their 'hardest fight ever' and gave a badge for doing it 100 times. And the fights have only gotten worse since then. 2-hour medulla fights. Sir and Squire Greggor, the renegade druid and the devourer, all just as hard as any battle in the deckathalon, especially for those, like me, who have to rely on random teamups.

I guess KI feels like by the time someone gets to max wizard, they have weeded out all the casual players and only the hard-core players remain. How much longer I'll be playing is hanging by a thread. If the next world is anything like the last one, with its "only the best of the best need apply" mentality, I won't be.

Failed stage 10 about 4 times now but I keep getting closer and closer. I guess I'll finally give will casts a try and see how that goes. Does anyone know if you can feed your pet for happiness during the Deckathalon? I Just want to make sure so I know when to stop training.

Yes, you are allowed to feed your pet snacks between battles in the Deckathalon.

You'll notice that all but one of those battles are side content and the one that isn't has been heavily nerfed(Medulla). This is in following with KI's design philosophy- easy main game(with a few exceptions such as end of world/arc bosses) with challenging side content. I really recommend that if you do not enjoy this type of gameplay to avoid those side areas. Neither Devourer, the Greggors or the Druid are required and you can acquire all the gear they drop by farming much easier instances. From what I've seen you should enjoy the majority of Karamelle's main story quests-it's a relatively laid back world in terms of combat.

The only main quest fights you might have trouble with is Judge Veg, Castle Gobbsmack, and the final boss. Though the last one isn't terribly hard unlike the Storm Titan.

Decided to check how much gold it would cost you using only the TC's from the Library if you came unprepared and only wanted the hamster.

1.1 Lightning Bats - 250 gold
1.2 Lightning Bats x 2 - 500 gold or Meteor Strike if you prefer
1.3 Storm Shark - 250 gold

2.1 Storm Shark - 250 gold
2.2 Storm Shark x 2 - 500 gold
2.3 Storm Shark - 250 gold + Will cast from Olde Town quest pet

3.1 Kraken - 550 gold

15 points per run x 3 + daily TC points = 65 points x 7 = 455 points.

2,550 gold per run x 3 = 7,650 gold x 7 = 53,550 gold spent in total.

That's very expensive for a newbie but if they prepare beforehand by buying from the bazaar when it's fully stocked, catching fish to sell, or gardening for TC's then they'll manage if the hamster is the only thing they're after.


If they prepared and bought these TC's from the bazaar before the event when they're usually fully stocked for cheaper prices it comes down to:

Lightning Bats - 100 gold
Storm Shark - 100 gold
Kraken - 220 gold

1,020 gold per run x 3 = 3,060 gold x 7 = 21,420 gold spent in total.

Yes, you are allowed to feed your pet snacks between battles in the Deckathalon.

for stage 2 I use 4 storm sharks (+ 1 snake if shark at 2.3 falls just short) = 1000 or 1200 gold
for stage 3 I use 1 kraken = 550 gold

or between 2550 and 2950 per run, depending on how many snakes I have to use.
On 2.2, 2 sharks are only 500, no need for the 1,000 blade

How else would you introduce challenging content? They are side content because easy, "just for fun" wizards don't make up the entire player base. It may not be a vision you agree with, but it's accommodating because it's optional.

I've had so much fun strategizing and playing the Deckathalon. My friends and I died laughing figuring out the cheats for the Devourer. I couldn't care less for easy, repetitive endgame content. The solution? Make it optional.

I will agree that the shining exception is the Storm Titan, as I think it's an unreasonably weird fight. Most everything else, including Medulla, has been heavily nerfed.

That also works for stage 1 but you save 1 card space using Meteor. I edited out the Fire blade with Elemental blade since it's cheaper. Using 2 sharks over that is slower but also great, especially since it saves 9,450 gold, bringing the total down to 53,550. Wow! It keeps getting lower! Imagine how much it would cost if these TC were bought from the bazaar while fully stocked for even cheaper prices. I'm curious how low it can go.

Don't get me wrong. I don't mind a challenge. But I don't have people I play with on a regular basis. I want a challenge that 1 wizard acting alone can deal with. That isn't so heavily dependent on luck like the deckathalon. Okay, maybe the final boss on a world is a team event, but very few boss dungeons in Empyrea pt 2 or the Catacombs can be done solo.

So the bosses in the Catacombs are optional, because I can craft what they drop. Meaning easy, repetitive farming. Except for a couple of hats, crafting IS how I equipped them with amulets, boots, the rest of the hats, and now working on rings.
@WarWeaver: If I'm just farming 1-3.1 for quick runes, I'm not worried about card space. Just 11 cards in my deck, I don't have to worry about the one card I want being at the bottom. I used to make longer runs and ended up only using half my credits because I just didn't have the time to use them all.
