      A nostalgia moment

Recently over the years, I always wonder why kingslsle retired gears, pets, etc. And I ask myself, Should kingslsle make a Nostalgia pack from the retired items? (examples: royal, master, and astral gears, mounts, etc) I just want to relive my nostalgia feel like the old days.

PS, if I posted this in the wrong section, let me know where to post on the right section so I dont make that mistake again.
      Is that all?

It seems to me that the current marketing strategy seems to be putting together these sort of bundles, so you may be pleasantly surprised. On the other hand, some retired items do stay retired, so maybe not.

PS - if you want member feedback on your question, it's in the right place, if you want to make sure Kingsisle sees your suggestions, post them in the Wizard101 Feedback forum.

      Re: A nostalgia moment

Honestly retired items is really just a marketing tool and I suspect Kingsisle is just saving this amongst other things players want as a backup method to restore the game's popularity and their revenue.

Remember for the longest time, we thought that the Code Wands (like the Fog Staff) were going to be retired forever and that it was extremely difficult to find or win a code that worked to get those items but the Elephant Graveyard fishing released and to everybody's joy, the code wands were dropped by treasure chest. I feel like this saved Fishing in general as people at that time were obsessed with increasing and maximizing fishing luck (this was before Azteca fishing spells were introduced I believe) and that made the company a bucket load of money at a short time and honestly I think the company is still benefiting slightly from those previously-retired items. More people purchase the Elephant Graveyard or pay for membership for easier pvp access (for fishing gear).

Sure its retired now but we really don't know when something is going to pop up again. A lot of old items are in fishing chests now... hopefully these retired items could save Derby as I've heard that nothing is doing much with that feature.

Also Throwback Thursdays are (were? I don't pay attention to these things) a thing

      Re: A nostalgia moment

I love the idea of bring back retired items, however it is a little bit tricky...

Some retired items should NEVER be brought back because of what they represent. The Valor Sword was for military families and therefore should not be released again as it was probably seen as something special back in 2009. Same with the Charity Meowmodon, it was a mount made for a specific purpose and cause and should not be brought back again. The same goes for the Pioneer Dragon Pet and mounts.

HOWEVER, the old Zeke gear is different. There was really no cause or purpose to make it exclusive, it was just cool looking gear with good stats for 2008 and 2009. I don't see why this could not be brought back. We have seen some of the old Masters gear brought through Rattlebones and Meowiarty duels and the Royal elegant set was brought back as the Gallant Rogue set with Aethyr Elemental. I personally see no reason why the rest of the old Zeke gear could not be brought back through various bosses or fishing spots in the new world. However if KI brought it back through one of their Crown Shop "bundles", that would seem like unnecessary monetization and quite irritating.

Personally, I have always wanted the old school themed Zeke Pirate set to come back, I have always loved the look of that set and it would give players even more stitching ideas.

It would be cool if a KI staff member saw this and put it into the pool of ideas for the game...

I agree that bringing back these items would be in bad taste, but if they were brought back in the same way they were introduced, it could be acceptable. Giving out the Valor Sword to military families and hosting another charity fundraiser for the Meowmodon would be nice to see!

Personally, I want to see the old stitch gear Zeke used to sell brought back. IIRC, this uniquely embroidered gear was Marleybonian of origin, and having more variation in our classic stitch gear would be fantastic to see! It would most definitely be a money maker for KI as well, what with how popular the current stitch gear is.

Some items do come back in "Throw Back" Thursday. If there is particular retired item you want, let KI know. They just may bring it back as they have done it before.

      Re: A nostalgia moment

It's a really weird question to grapple with isn't it?

Retired and exclusive items I hold in extremely high regard and releasing many of those again really diminishes that for me. My Valor sword and Danger Hound are perhaps my most treasured Wizard101 possessions specifically because they are so rare.

I used to regard my Bone Dragon mount within that category. Now it just doesn't seem that special anymore. I imagine many who hold the original astral gear and the charity mounts would feel the same.

While it may be cool to see many of these items brought back, I think it would cause them to loose that special luster.

The Valor Sword is a good example of how items could be brought back....but in a different way. For those that play Pirate101, you know the Valor Sword is in that game, but under a different name and with duel wield looking effect. Similarly, the rare Sinbad Death wands are in that category too (although via mistake vs intentional). In both cases, having the look or slightly altered stats could allow most players to feel somewhat connected to the item, while still letting the few with the original version still have exclusiveness. It would also allow KI to continue to reuse the art assets.
