R.I.P Classic Crown Sales

A year ago today we saw the end of an era- the last Classic Crown Sale, 50% more Bonus Crowns was held and there has not been one since. Despite great backlash from the community, we have only received non-answers from KingsIsle over the past year... Just like with Double Gardening (Which was proven to be intended- KingsIsle lied. Surprising, I know) I suspect that these sales will go down in the same fashion.
For those who you who do not know, Classic Crown sales were the 50% More Bonus Crowns and -25% Off sales.


Many Players (Including myself) will only purchase Crowns during one of these sales, and so I again urge KingsIsle to reconsider, and bring these sales back. We do not need to see them nearly twice every month like in 2018, but once every few months would be perfectly acceptable.

Some may say that KingsIsle loses money with these sales, but I beg to differ. @Sparck himself said that 2018 was on of the best years financially for KingsIsle, and they hosted almost two classic sales each month! It just does not add up. Why would KingsIsle cease hosting these sales when,

A) The fanbase absolutely adores these sales and many will only buy Crowns when they are discounted,
B) KingsIsle clearly was not losing money with these sales, as they had a total of 53 promotions in 2018 with nearly 2 classic sales each month (Compared to 130 promotions and far less Crown sales leading up to August 17th in 2019), and
C) Player activity has increased tenfold with the Pandemic, holding a Crown Sale now would attract many new and returning customers!



We can all trace this back to the hiring of Dave Rosen and Craig Beers as vice-president of marketing and vice-president of product management, respectively. They joined KingsIsle in September, 2018 and just two months later we saw the nasty Night-Knight event. And, "coincidentally" after their employment, the number of classic Crown sales began to drop... Until we went a whole year without any.

Rest In Pieces, Classic Crown Sales. You will be missed.

Ha! Too true, too true. I often wonder what sort of Marketing Team can more self destructive than Doofenshmirtz's inators, but then I recall all of the mobile games KingsIsle has created... That then subsequently always tank.

Thanks for bringing up confirmation that 2018 was one of the best financial years for KI. I find that their decisions as of late have been questionable, at best. Simultaneously gutting crowns events while introducing crown spending events, and neglecting Pirate101 to focus on mobile games is... odd. I've never been one to buy large amounts of crowns, but I know plenty of people who are itching to open their wallets as long as they can get a nice deal. If they brought back classic crown sales, I think it'd be both a good look for KI that they brought it back after popular request, but also it'd boost their revenue by a lot.

I really don't understand the reasoning behind these decisions. Wouldn't having frequent crowns sales along with semi-frequent crown spending events (like we have now) boost revenue by a lot instead of decrease it? Sure, people wouldn't be buying it at full price, but a lot more people would be buying, and possibly in greater quantities than they otherwise would. Case in point: looking at the prices for the sale, I'd rather spend 50 dollars to get 40k crowns, than 25 dollars to get 16.5k crowns.

Just sparing a few thoughts on this topic.

Totally agree with you. I used to buy crowns on sale at least once or twice a month, sometimes more if they came out with a new pack. Now I've only bought a few times this year when they were on sale. Once or twice I bought 5,000 crowns to use henchmen but that's it. I would send packs to my kids and grandkids and buy them mounts etc. Not now.
To me it makes no sense, they're shooting themselves in the foot. Just my opinion.
Amazon has enjoyed the $$$ I used to spend here.

Nope. Didn't miss them. I have been actively playing Wiz for the entire month and I don't recall anything related to housing, except the Monstrodome. Seems like the 50% off Housing Items has been gutted too. Or maybe they just forgot to put it. Either way, definitely disappointing for housing enthusiasts.
