Thaumaturges Unite! Justice for Frost Giant!

Hello KingsIsle, this first part is responding to the Wizard101 Developer Diary Spell Balance Audit: https://www.wizard101.com/game/dev-d...-balance-audit. My suggestion is down the bottom, if you want to skip the first part, that's fine.

This DPP chart is not followed at all, not sure why you put it in there (just saying).

These are all plain single target hits with no utility that have higher average DPP than what the chart says. Colossus: 92.5 DPP, Centaur: 92.5 DPP, Skeletal Pirate: 94 DPP, Helephant: 110.83 DPP, Triton: 139.17 DPP.
      This paragraph is incorrect:

"AOE spells typically take a 25% penalty to damage compared to a single target spell; Storm Lord, Nova, and Frost Giant had no such reduction."
Storm Lord: 7 pips for 690 damage. Triton: 139.17 (rounded) average DPP. 25% less than Triton's DPP is 104.375. 104.375 x 7 = 730 (rounded). The spell is 40 damage less than what a 7 pip Storm AoE should be according to what you guys said, yet you said it has no 25% reduction from single target DPP, when in reality it has a DPP reduction greater than the 25% you said they're supposed to have.
Frost Giant: 7 pips for 775 damage (before nerf). Colossus average DPP: 92.5. 92.5 - 25% = 69.375. 69.375 x 7 = 485 (rounded). This spell was already 10 less damage than the 25% reduction. "We chose Storm Lord as our anchor point and brought other schools up to par, offering them the same “free AOE” perk that Storm Lord was getting." You guys nerf Frost Giant to 460, so now Frost Giant is 25 less damage than what a regular 7 pip Ice AoE is supposed to be. How could you say these spells have 'no such reduction'? Both Frost Giant and Storm Lord have a larger-than-normal reduction from the single target DPP of their school.

Now of course the small damage reductions of 25 and 40 of those spells is compensated with the utility of the stun. But if these spells really did have 'no such reduction', Storm Lord would deal 975 damage, and Frost Giant would deal 645 damage. As it was, they dealt 690 and 475, that's more than a 25% reduction.

      Justice for Frost Giant!
I've been trying out the new rank 7 spells since Live Realm was released, and I think the new changes are awesome! This is my only suggestion. I have been using Frost Giant and Scarecrow a lot since the new update, and I'm super happy with Scarecrow now, it's so much better, but it's made me realize even more how under-powered Frost Giant is. I'm really glad you guys buffed Scarecrow, it was definitely a needed a buff from the pitiful 600 damage it used to do with an Epic enchant. But there was also another weak rank 7 spell that needed a buff, Frost Giant, and you guys nerfed it instead. All the other school's rank 7 AoE spells deal more damage than Scarecrow, which is how it should be, but Frost Giant is 130 less damage, now that life-steal attacks get full damage from enchantments, and it has a much, much worse utility. Scarecrow has one of the best utilities in the game, life-steal damage, Frost Giant only has a one round stun, which cannot even compare with life-steal damage. Frost Giant needs to be buffed to at least the same damage as Scarecrow. Please don't nerf Scarecrow to attempt to balance this out, because then we'd be left with two under-powered rank 7 spells, like we had before.

The rank 7 spells are the essential hitting spells for both Ice and Death from level 48 until their Shadow enhanced AoEs at level 100+. They're also the only solid non-Shadow AoEs they get, so we still need them at the higher levels for when we don't get a Shadow pip. Thaumaturges of the Spiral, come to my aid! Unite! Justice for Frost Giant!

I agree wholeheartedly. Some of the spell nerfs make sense- but others like this make me question the competence of KingsIsle even further. Frost Giant was fine where it was at- KingsIsle could have given it a small buff, and according to the Rank 7 Spell guidelines it would still be fine. But instead we get an incredibly OP and imbalanced Fire Dragon, Orthrus, and AoE Judgement, AKA Snowball Barrage.

Honestly, these spells should still be considered "in development" and shouldn't have been released onto Live Realm... I guess we will just have to pester KingsIsle until they make like a Sorcerer and balance these spells!

One of the things not mentioned is the fact that Ice has a huge health pool and Storm has a very small health pool. Surely there needs to be some form of compensation / penalty for the health pool differences.

Re: Thaumaturges Unite! Justice for Frost Giant!

Frost Giant and Storm Lord have effects. Having one brings a spells pip damage value down.

At 1 drop, their dealing damage equal to a rank 6 spell. This puts Frost Giant at 555 and Storm Lord at 835.

This is were I feel it should have been in the first place.

At 2 drops, their dealing damage equal to a rank 5 spell. This puts Frost Giant at 460 and Storm Lord at 690.

This is why Frost Giant had it's damage lowered. It had to match it's rank 5 spell damage just like Storm lord matched theirs.

The issue is that their effects are being treated as 2 pips for reasons I can't comprehend.

The pip cost of a effect on a spell doesn't matter.
