      Bug Reporting 101

      Hey everyone!

This is Kayly (Vanessa Mythdust), one of your friendly neighborhood QA Testers at KingsIsle. Being in QA, it’s my job to identify and reliably reproduce issues, more commonly known as bugs, that occur inside the game. These can be anything from minor cosmetic issues to major quest problems.

Player bug reports are a huge help because no matter how much we test, pesky bugs will almost always squeeze through the cracks. In addition to posting bugs here on Wizard101 Central, you can also report them on the Official Message Boards, through our customer service portal, or send an email to [email protected]. Whichever method you choose, please take a quick glance through the forums/message boards to see if your bug has already been reported. We want to avoid duplicate bug reports as much as possible!

If you want to make your bug reports as useful as possible, please keep the below tips in mind:
      - Be specific. The more details, the better! Saying “X item isn’t working” won’t help us identify what’s wrong. Where did it happen? What were you doing? Keep in mind that the QA department needs to reproduce the bugs that you report, so sometimes even the smallest details can help us do that.
      - A picture is worth a thousand words. If you’re able to attach a screenshot of the problem or link a video, that’s awesome! Knowing what to look for and how it appears on the player end is essential for us.
      - Map it out. If the issue is location-based, opening up your map and taking a screenshot of where you were when it happened could save us loads of time. Otherwise, we’d have to wander around until we found the exact spot you’re describing.
      - Remember, we want to squash these bugs too. In-game issues can be incredibly frustrating at times, but remember to keep your bug reports informational and polite. Aggressive bug reports won’t get the problem fixed any faster ... we’re on the same side!

Thanks to everyone who makes an effort to report bugs and improve the gameplay experience. We greatly appreciate it!

      Kayly,

First congratulations on graduation and your new job! It was great to see you on KI live (again!).

I don't think this qualifies as a bug, but I sure wish KI would change it: when a life wizard casts their forest lord spell and they have no hanging charms, all is good and the cut scene (or whatever it's called) proceeds like any other spell from any other school.

BUT when they have blades the camera angle shifts while the charms are firing off and one of the two trees that are raised up in the animation blocks everyone's view of the character casting the spell. It's been like this for years. You can't see the blades that are being used to buff the spell, you can only count them by the sound. I'd really like to see the charms, positive and negative, as they are activated.

      Well, maybe someday...

      Thanks and again, congrats!

Hi Vanessa - nice to see you are being quite proactive in your new position!

Are you wanting to see bug report threads repeated or linked here from the Feedback forum? Or only new bugs to be reported in this section?

      Hey Willow,

Yeah, I'm trying! Being a player before being hired, I think I have a pretty good grasp on things the community would like to see. Communication is key, and I'm going to try to help in that area wherever I can.

This section can just hold the new bugs. We'll start off fresh and shiny.

      Re: Bug Reporting 101

Thanks for doing this Vanessa! :D

      Here's a bug:

When gardening, if you equip Spirit of the Forest pet and do the magic spell Growzone Layer from the card the pet gives, it puts that spell in 'Gardening Favorites'.

That spell going in Favorites is a glitch because it can only be activated correctly if the pet is equipped. If the pet is not equipped, clicking Growzone Layer from Gardening Favorites will cast the spell (with no animation) at the cost of 1 energy without doing the actual spell.

      How to fix bug:

Stop having the pet card go in the 'Favorite Gardening Spells'.
However, if the spell could remain in Favorites and work as intended, it would be highly beneficial to the gardener because we lose tons of energy switching pets.

Also, can you bring up the issue of wizards not receiving warnings that energy will be lost when switching between gear? It would be nice to see a message give a warning that if we switch from one gear to another, the exact amount of energy we'd lose.

Thanks again Vanessa! Glad you're on board.

Here is just a content defect (not a bug as it's not a broken functionality, just erroneous alignment of content)-

If you click on the backpack icon, the number of items in your pack appear normal (like the below image):
      Name: Normal Backpack count.jpg
Views: 324
Size: 88.1 KB

However, if you click on the "Housing" part of your backpack, the last digit isn't properly aligned (see below):
      Name: Content backpack defect.jpg
Views: 325
Size: 96.4 KB

I tested other resolutions (even the smallest 800 x 600) and the content defect is still there (was thinking it might be a resolution defect but doesn't appear so).

      hello,

      very glad about this thread!

I was playing the beastmoon event, and while pip-hunting moved a bit too close to this wall.. And got stuck in it! can't do anything but turn around, and if i use the home button it tells me i'm quitting the dungeon.

here is a picture that shows my position and the map.

This kind of bug happened to me already two other times : in my garden, where going through two very close items set on the floor (precisely litter from couch potatoes and cauldron from king parsley) i sometimes found myself stuck on the litter; and in colossus boulevard, in the safe area where there are no NPC, that time i had set a teleport back too close to the wall, and when i ported there, i couldn't do anything.

But if for the other situations a teleport home wasn't a big deal, this time it made me lose the game :/

Well thanks for looking into it!

      Re: Bug Reporting 101

Here's a fun glitch. While I'm porting my wizards to my place holder wizard (the account who's finished with the daily assignment and is just sitting there to make it easier to get to the spot on my other wizards) while doing my daily assignments, sometimes I become invisible while riding my mount. I appear normal on my other accounts, but on the window for that wizard I'm invisible. I remain that way on that account until I swap mounts or get into a battle. It's happened two days in a row, and I'm finding it funny still. If I get it to happen again today I'll screenshot my entire screen so that I can show the view on all of my accounts at once)

      Day one (8/3/19)

      Day two (8/4/19)

I think I know what's causing this. I'm teleporting my other two wizards to my place holder around the same time because I got it to happen. I cropped the first screenshot of what my accounts see for each other so it wouldn't be so gigantic, but I kept an uncropped version of it (it's in my glitches folder).
