Crazy Meowiarty Exalted Duel Bug

Today I was fighting the Meowiarty Exalted Duel with a fiend of mine. My friend was running a Fire wizard and I was running a Storm wizard. My friend was in the first position and I was in the second position. We were going first. The second boss in the fight was Dr. Von Katzenstein. Dr. Von Katzenstein has a known cheat where he periodically casts Monster Mash on a random wizard at the start of a round.

My friend chose to hit with Meteor Strike. At the start of the round Dr. Von Katzenstein hit him with Monster Mash and Beguiled him. Then the round should start with my friend casting Meteor Strike. But instead my friend cheat cast Monster Mash on one of the enemies! I've never seen anything like it. We were flabbergasted.

The round and the fight continued as expected after this. My friend's real turn was next and he cast Meteor Strike (since he was beguiled he hit me instead of the enemies).

Anyone ever seen anything like this? It was really strange.

Did your friend happen to have the headmaster's doom staff, that item comes with a may cast monster mash. If that is the case then it isn't a cheat.

I've been out of town, so didn't respond sooner. He definitely did not have Headmaster's Doom Staff. He was at a computer next to me in RL. I know exactly what gear he had. He saw the same thing on his screen as well. It's too bad I didn't take some screen shots. But I didn't even think of it at the time.
