      Pierce vs Crit?

I am a level 125 Pyromancer with the top tier set, but I am unsure if I should outfit my circle jewel slots with crit or pierce. Advice?

Depends. Both can be handy, but if you're into pvp then go pierce, otherwise try crit or a mix of both.

      Re: Pierce vs Crit?

Pierce Jewels are basically the only way to get decent pierce as of now, go for pierce. But if you pve a lot and you're absolutely dying to have more crit, then go for crit.
I have a Signature, but not a profile picture. This is not sad.

      Re: Pierce vs Crit?

On my Ice, even with a Spell-Proof, quad critical pet (and a couple of dual damage, dual or triple crit), I'm leaning towards pierce lately. The level decay on critical really stings.

Depends a lot on what jewels you actually have: on my Fire, I don't even have a choice, just a couple of piercing jewels and no critical, so I went with that. Close to 25% now (give or take), which stays no matter what level I am .
My wizards: Corwin Swiftcatcher (Death), Alexandra Winterflower (Ice), Darby Firebreeze (Fire), Katie Wildheart (Storm), Heather (Life), Sarah LionHeart (Myth).

      Re: Pierce vs Crit?

Depends on how high your crit is. If it is isn't super high, adding a few critical jewels won't matter much. However, if your critical is roughly already 50%+ or more, then adding a few critical jewels would bump your critical percentage by a considerable amount. If you have low to medium critical (less than 40%), might as well use a critical talent jewel on your pet/breed a pet with a crit talent instead. In that case, go for pierce instead, because it's better to have pierce overall, especially since mobs can block criticals. If you do PvP, or are interested in PvP, I strongly recommend you go for pierce instead of critical.

However, take all of this with a grain of salt. If pierce doesn't work for you, then use critical jewels. It really depends on how exactly you play and the area you are in. Experiment a bit if pierce doesn't work for you. Damage jewels are also an option, but I wouldn't recommend them. Good luck!

      Re: Pierce vs Crit?

For questing and farming, you want critical.

For PVP you want pierce - assuming you are facing players with a lot of resist to fire.

From a math standpoint, let's look at extremes:

If you are battling someone with 100% resistance to fire, then all the critical in the world will still deliver zero (0) damage.
Whereas, pierce will reduce the 100% to allow some damage.

      Just my thoughts.

all mobs resist 40% max where bosses resist 80% max so i find 30% pierce is all that i need the rest i go for damage as crit is useless to me

Can't fires with really good gear get up to like 41 pierce?

I'd rather pierce over more crit tho tbh.
