Hold It! - A Guide to the Rasputin Final Battle

      Rasputin Final Battle

After a long and treacherous journey, Rasputin’s evil plan is revealed. He has his eyes set on destroying the Sky Anchor and it’s up to you to stop him! The final showdown (or is it?) between you and Rasputin takes place within the Horizon Hold, high atop Borealis Peaks.

Upon entering, it seems quiet … too quiet. Rasputin decides to make a grand entrance with the help of his huge Titan friend, and declares that he has waited for the day that shadows would rise and chaos would erupt. Feeling like the time has come, Rasputin shows his true and more powerful form, a shadow beast named “The Rat.”

      The Rat

The Rat starts off as a lone shadow boss with 70,000 health. He has 20% Myth, Death, Life, Balance, and Storm resist. He is neutral to Ice and Fire. The Rat is also stun immune.

For this battle, you will have Mellori’s assistance. She gives +20% Incoming Health Boost.

      Basic Cheats

      • If you or any of your teammates enters the battle late, The Rat will shout “Tardiness Will Not Be Tolerated!” and cast a tri-trap on the tardy wizard(s) which consists of a 60% fire trap, a 60% ice trap, and a 60% universal trap. Following the traps, The Rat will also cast a dimension shift to shift all traps currently on him onto the tardy wizard(s).

      • The Rat’s Titan will attack your entire team on different round numbers.
        • The Titan will alternate between 2 different attacks. Both attacks deal shadow damage.
          • “Down Comes The Sky Anchor, And The Spiral With It!” – The Rat’s Titan will hit the Sky Anchor, causing a shockwave to hit you for about 900 damage.
            • Occurs at the start of rounds 2,10, and 20.

          • “My Titan Will See You Disintegrated!” – The Rat’s Titan will attack you with lazer eyes, dealing about 997 damage.
            • Occurs at the start of rounds 5,15, and 25.

      • At the start of round 30, The Rat will shout “And Alas, The Anchor Falls, The Spiral Unravels …” and his Titan will destroy the Sky Anchor. This will also instantly kill your entire team.

      • If you play a feint, The Rat will not only summon a minion (see below), but at the end of the round he will also shout “Fool Me Once?” This is a warning and the Rat won’t do anything yet but …
        • If you or ANYONE on your team plays another feint, The Rat will summon another minion and also shout “Can’t Get Fooled Again!” at the end of the round. This time The Rat means business and will cast a shadow Dimension Shift which will remove ALL the traps on The Rat and place them on you instead.
          • This cheat will alternate. So the first feint is fine, the second will result in a dimension shift. The third is fine, the fourth will result in a dimension shift, etc...

      Some Basic Minion Information

The Rat loves to summon minions! There are 3 different types of minions, and each one has its own unique triggers and cycle. We’ll get to those later! For now, here is some basic minion information. Please note that when I say round 1, I am referring to the first round that the minion is active in, round 2 would be the second, round 3 would be the third.

      • Each minion will become active the round directly after they were summoned.
      • Each minion has 3 forms.

      Round 1 = Form 1: Minion has 1 health and 120% resist.

      Round 2 = Form 2: Minion has 10 health and 130% resist.

      Round 3 = Form 3: Minion has 100 health and 140% resist.

      Minion Cheats and Cycles

Each minion’s triggers and cycles are as follows:

      • If you use any type of heal, The Rat will interrupt to shout “You Call That Healing? Behold My Creation!” and summon what I call the “Healing Minion.”
        • The healing minion has the following cycle:
          • Round 1: Casts a 40% Guiding Light as well as a 60% Sanctuary.
          • At the end of Round 1: Transforms into form 2 minion.
          • Round 2: Passes if The Rat is at full health. If not, it will cast Regenerate on The Rat for about 503 initial health and 819 health on each following tick.
          • At the end of Round 2: Transforms into form 3 minion.
          • Round 3: If The Rat is at full health, it will cast a Spinysaur on a random player. If The Rat already has some health taken away, it will instead cast a Rebirth (giving around 1631 health) and Rasputin will shout “Say Bye-Bye To My Friend, And Hello To Your Doom!” which will trigger a -85% Doom and Gloom around the fight. After either the Rebirth or the Spinysaur, the minion will then destroy itself.

      • If you use any type of blade or damage bubble, The Rat will interrupt to shout “You Have Blades, But I Have Borealis!” and summon what I call the “Destruction Minion.”
        • The destruction minion has the following cycle:
          • Round 1: Casts a 25% Windstorm.
          • At the end of Round 1: Transforms into form 2 minion.
          • Round 2: Casts a Wild Bolt on a random player.
          • At the end of Round 2: Transforms into form 3 minion.
          • Round 3: Casts Insane Bolt on everyone. Please note that this Insane Bolt NEVER hits the minion, it always hits you and it hurts! It deals about 2800 base damage. The minion then destroys itself and taunts you by saying “Borealis Is Hard To Pierce, Eh?”

      • If you use any type of trap, The Rat will interrupt to shout “The Spiral Is A Disease. We Have The Cure!” and summon what I call the “Debuff Minion.”
        • The debuff minion has the following cycle:
          • Round 1: Casts a -25% plague on everyone.
          • At the end of Round 1: Transforms into form 2 minion.
          • Round 2: Casts a -65% Infection on everyone.
          • At the end of Round 2: Transforms into form 3 minion.
          • Round 3: Casts a -90% Weakness on everyone. The minion then destroys itself and taunts you by saying “Borealis Is Hard To Pierce, Eh?”

      The Rat Strategy

      • Pick your battle order! To get around the pull:
        • Have everyone enter on the sigils.
        • Have your hammer (hitter) leave the dungeon by using the commons or home button.
        • When your support players are in the battle, have them whisper your hammer to recall into the dungeon and join. Have your support players let the timer expire on round 1 to give your hammer enough time to recall and join. It's best to have your support players pass this round.

      • On round 2, have your support players cast a low pip heal. This will summon 3 healing minions and you'll be able to blade and trap The Rat with no consequences. Your hammer can begin to blade and trap.
      • Starting on round 3, blade up your hammer and cast traps on The Rat. Since the battle is already full, The Rat can't summon any pesky trap or blade minions to give you trouble.
      • If you haven't killed The Rat by the time the minions start destroying themselves, you'll need to summon more healing minions. To do this, have your support players cast a low pip heal again. Your hammer can continue to buff.
      • Make sure to only use ONE feint. You get one freebie, take advantage of it! Just make sure to avoid placing another or all of your already placed school traps will be removed.
      • Have your hammer play shrike the turn before they hit. This will not only help pierce the minions' resist, but Rasputin's as well!
      • Pack shatter for the hit round. The Rat LOVES to shield. Have shatter handy to help out your hammer.
      • Knock out The Rat and his minions in one hit.
      • If you have any minions left after the hit, simply knock them out with a small hit, or wait for them to destroy themselves.

      What the battle looks like:

      • Round 1: All players pass, let the timer expire to allow time for the hammer to recall in.
      • Round 2: First 3 players cast a low pip heal, hammer buffs.
      • Round 3: All players buff.
      • Round 4: All players buff.
      • Round 5: All players buff.
      • Round 6: First 3 players cast a low pip heal, hammer buffs.
      • Round 7: Rinse and repeat as needed from round 3.

      Why We Like This Strategy

      • It's safe and relatively fast. If something goes wrong, no biggie, it's extremely easy to recover. Depending on what The Rat casts, this could easily be a 6-7 round battle.
      • Anyone can do it. This strategy doesn't require specific gear stats or specific schools to pull off. With this strategy, you can work with what your team already has.

Upon The Rat's defeat, Grandfather Spider reveals himself and applauds your efforts. He warns you to never meddle in his affairs or his children’s affairs ever again. Before he departs, Grandfather Spider also assures Rasputin that he can turn his frustration into a greater strength … and then vanishes.

      Congrats on completing Polaris!

What I have found that works really well if you have a storm player on your team is to have him/her tempest spam. With a dedicated tempest spammer the minions are suppressed each round before they can do anything really major. The other players can then be free to buff their main hammer. The only minor issue is that this prevents feint stacking but it truly is minor with the amount of buffs you can stack on the main hammer.

We tried tempest spamming as well, it worked out fairly well actually! We found it a bit faster to feint stack at the beginning and then blade for a big hit, particularly if the hamer could get a shadow pip; generally we were able to kill through his resist in 3 rounds (2 probably would've done it, but I'm addicte to overkill at this point, lol). That being said, we were playing with a team that had a LOT of stacking feint options, like pets, potent TCs, gear potents, etc, that likely aren't available to a lot of groups. I'm curious how long it took to kill with temp spam? We got to about round 7 and had him whittled down quite a bit... and then the server kicked us all out and we decided to take a break, lol. I'm thinking about 10 rounds with a 4-man team? (We only had 3 at the time.)

It varied widely, with pickup teams it took about 10-12 rounds to get the necessary set-up but with a decent team it takes about 3-5 rounds. Feint stacking is undoubtedly faster but is also riskier. I would recommend feint stacking to an experienced team who has been working together for a long time and tempest suppression to less experienced teams. That being said it's not a matter of whittling away-both strategies work on the principle of a OHKO- the difference is tempest spam neutralizes the minions at the cost of a slower build phase while feint stack executes a faster build phase at the cost of more risk.
