Rattlebones Exalted Challenge Guide (Rough Version)

      Rattlebones Exalted Challenge

With Rattlebones' being the easiest of the new Exalted One-Shot Dungeons to farm for (I had more than 50% drop rate from the original Rattlebones until Wednesday, but the rate might have been lowered, as it has been more 5 percent-ish since then), I decided to spend some time testing it. Since the first run was definitely a tough one even using both of my accounts, I decided to list some of our old friends' new tricks and share them with you. This is certainly incomplete, so any help to correct the flaws and add missing information is welcome, as well as your best strategies to run this dungeon.

      Stats

Rattlebones, Rank 14 Boss, Death with Ice mastery, 30 500 health, 9% armor piercing

Fairy Queen, Rank 14 Boss, Life with Death mastery, 22 500 health, 12% armor piercing

Note: The resist and weaknesses is unknown for both bosses. Neither seems to resist and boost to the schools you could expect. For example, the Fairy Queen has a small boost to Myth.

Fairy, Rank 14 Elite, Any School, 5 200 health

      Cheats

Rattlebones: Late players get Mana Burned, you get your Feints back and heals=Doom and Gloom.

      "Tardiness Will Not Be Tolerated!"

Rattlebones will drop an enhanced Mana Burn on any player, minion or henchman who joins the fight late (any time after the beginning of the very first round) as a cheat at the beginning of the player's first active round. I learned this trying to avoid taking too much damage on my myth on the first turn and ended up starting the second turn with no pips and 2122 missing health. Bad plan.

      Note: Unbalance blocks this cheat.

      "Let's Dampen The Heals!"

Rattlebones will change the bubble to Doom and Gloom as a cheat right after a heal is casted by your team (pet casts do count, sadly). You can freely change the bubble, but he will cheat-cast Doom again everytime a heal is used under a different bubble. The cheat always goes off at the end of someone's turn, which means a heal could still trigger multiple pet heals before he dooms.

      "Why don't we trade?"

Both bosses have access to a fancy Ice cheat-spell to reverse feint traps and will cast it everytime Feint is used on either of them to send the big end back at the user. Therefore, a normal Feint will result in a 70% trap on the user and a 30% trap on the targeted boss. Feint can still be used on the Fairies without triggering this cheat.

Fairy Queen: Keeps calling minions, heals, doesn't tolerate feints either, doesn't know what to do with blades.

      "Fairies! Protect Your Queen!"

On the first turn, the Fairy Queen will call her 2 Fairies, which will appear at the second turn and become active on the third. New fairies will be called through this process whenever one is taken down, until the Fairy Queen is defeated. These fairies can be from any school.

"We fight as a team, our victory is assured!"

Every now and then, the Queen will cast a Satyr at the end of a round to heal Rattlebones. This cheat only seems to happen when at least one of her servants is still alive.

"You'll never be as charming as Rattlebones!"

If anyone of your team blades, changes the bubble or uses a spell that includes a blade or a bubble as a side effect, such as Gaze of Fate, there is a chance of the Fairy Queen immediately cheat-casting Enfeeble on the target of the blade (or on the user of a global spell). Any such spell sometimes trigger the cheat and sometimes does not, regardless of the number of charms on Rattlebones. This might be changed in the future to something more predictable. Dissipate is a safe way to avoid Enfeebles, as it is her only Storm spell.

      Fairies

The fairies don't do much, but one sometimes cheats at the beginning of a round by sacrificing themselves to heal the Fairy Queen or, for the Fire ones, by immolating themselves to hit a random enemy (the Fairy defeats itself in either way). The fairies rarely live long enough to cheat and don't seem to cheat even when they are left untouched for a long time, but they seem to cast these spells regularly the turn after the Fairy Queen gets hurt by a damage spell. Fire Fairies can even cheat-cast Immolate after the Fairy Queen is defeated.

      Spells

The fairies only have access to spells of their school, but those can include Pierce, Cleanse Ward, other utility spells, traps (including Spirit and Elemental traps), blades (including Dark Pact), spears and small hits.

The Fairy Queen has access to Life and Death spells, mostly healing spells such as Rebirth, Sacrifice and Guiding Light. Her main hits are an enhanced King Artorius that deals approximatively 1500 Life damage, a single-target natural attack that deals nearly Life 1000 damage and an AoE natural attack that deals even more damage and leaves 30% Death traps behind. The fairy Queen also knows Cycle of Life and Curse.

Rattlebones has mostly Death spells, including an enhanced Midnight Sprite, an enhanced Scarecrow and his natural attacks: the single-target version costs 5 pips and deals around 1000 damage while the AoE version is much powerful for only 3 pips with almost 2300 base power. Rattlebones' only Ice spells are a possibly enhanced Abominable Weaver (he doesn't seem to know Call of Khrulhu, however) and Steal-Ward. He also uses Fortify, Plague, Legion Shield and Shadow Sentinel (for 30% backlash), as well as a special AoE 70% Feint that leaves a single 30% feint on himself.

Both bosses also have new Death school tri-blades with a Shadow blade being followed by 2 different blades (either Ice, Life or Death) in a random order. These blades can either be 35% or 45% and both versions stack.

      Bug?

None of the non-cheat spells used by these bosses responds to dispels. I tested this by putting Spirit Dispels on both bosses with a Melt on Rattlebones early in the match and none of these dispels ever went off despite several spells of each school being used. Dissipate and Unbalance still successfully stop the bosses' cheats.

      Strategy

Beware of the bosses. Both stack traps and blades and can wipe out an entire team in one turn without any problem with their natural AoE attacks. Ether shields (tons of them) are almost a necessity to stay alive, unless your entire team has immunity to Life and Death. Ice shields on hitters are also a good idea to survive Abominable Weavers.

Healing is also important, but very difficult with Doom and Gloom. A bubble change is required between heals. For this reason, I recommend teams to avoid all healing pets and healers to always go for their biggest heals. In the case where anyone in the team uses a pet that can cast heals at any time, it is best to change bubbles immediately before a hit or heal, because pets heal a lot in this battle, causing most bubbles to be replaced after less than a round.

To avoid being scared of Enfeeble and to get rid of the annoying Fairies for good, my favorite strategy is to stack traps on the Queen, add an offensive aura and a bubble and take out the entire Fairy family in one hit. Then, while shields are still necessary to stay alive, the match gets easier and faster as blades allow an easy 2HKO on Rattlebones (especially with him often being considerably weakened by his own Shadow Sentinels). The traps used to stack can include universal traps, school-specific traps, tri-traps and feints, but remember that reversed feints are often more dangerous than useful. Considering that all blades don't generally trigger the Queen's Enfeeble cheat, a few Dissipates on her can also make a blade stacking strategy viable.

      Drops

The drops always include gold, a rank 8 or 9 snack, a ultra seed, 2 treasure cards, often Shadow-enhanced spells, and 1 or 2 of the following No Auction items: new haircut (the Midterm), piece of his new furtinure set, Master's/Artisan's socket wrench, 7-day or permanent new Whirlwind mount from a random school (Life and Death confirmed), piece of his normal gear set, piece of his school-specific gear set (for the player's own school). You also get a Mote of Transport every now and then. I haven't received any kind of jewel from this dungeon yet.

Here is his normal gear set:

Examples of his school specific gear (both sets look the same visually):

As you can see, the robes are definitely the best part of his drops and can easily compete with Malistaire's. Comparable hats, boots and wands await you in the other Exalted One-Shot dungeons.

Good testing and farming to all!

      If you read this:

"You'll never be as charming as Rattlebones!"

It seems you can blade as long as you do not wind up with more than rattlebones. I have sometimes gotten enfeebed on first blade though and sometimes not, this one for sure needs more research.

That was my first assumption as well, but my tests confirmed that both Enfeeble and no Enfeeble could happen with Rattlebones having no blades and that both events could also happen with him having pretty much any amount of any blade. The factor that determines whether or not the Fairy Queen's cheat is triggered might be very complex, just as well as it can all be random, but the text doesn't suggest randomness. My guess remains that KI will change it by the time it gets to live so it doesn't let too many blades through.

OK so does the person who receives the blade get enfeebled or just the caster or e-1 lol?

the person receiving the blade. Since all feints are reversed in this dungeon, we will be making lots of use of single school and tri traps again lol.

Did you mention the Feint reversal or universal trap reversal?

We used Dissipate, since Enfeeble is the only Storm spell the Fairy casts. Other stuff mentioned in the video, about what minion does what.

The person who receives the blade. However, bubble spells, because they are self-targeted by default, trigger Enfeeble on the user. I'll test Bladestorm on Monday, but it should also result in an Enfeeble on the user.

k so if the baldestorm only triggers enfeeble on the user balance could use those to boost teammates and others could use school or tri-traps until they have a descent hit

I know it reverses feints, does it also reverse universal traps like hex? Did the dissipate work? I am thinking the main reason we now have double dispels actually are these new dungeons.

TBH, hex is not tested in the video.

Yes, Dissipate works, but you'll see at the end when there's 2 blades put on the last storm, that the Fairy did not try to Enfeeble. The Fairy is fickle. However, all Global spells, like the Sanctuary, did cause an immediate try at Enfeeble on the caster.
