Is because they want their players to farm hours every day nonstop or to encourage people to buy crowns to get the item from the crown shop if it's in the crown shop. It brings money to KI and brings a lot of activity to the games.

They're sadistic and enjoy seeing players frustrated over their ridiculously low drop rates. But seriously, KI really needs to raise the drop rates for some dungeons/boss battles (cough cough Tartarus). It's really aggravating having to farm for the same item over and over and over again only to not get it.
Actually it's kind of the other way around. They have items in the crown shop to earn revenue for their employee's so that they can hire people to do certain jobs so that players have a game to play. They were kind enough to make it fair for players that did not have money to still earn the rewards, by putting the items in the game and farm-able. (They didn't even have to do that.) So be grateful that farming is even an option.

There's more than just the crown shop that gets money though and earn revenue for employees. They also have a lot of employees already and bringing in more employee means they need to make more money. Farming is an option but is required to get better stats to win, take tier 1 darkmoor gear for example or tartarus gear for example.

Wizard101 doesnt even have the lowest drops. Not be a long shot. As I said on a different thread I have played other games where drops are confirmed to be 1% or lower. I think drops are low to give players something to do first of all. If they werent things would go by even faster. Also there would be no point in rare or good gear that was made no auction. They might as well just drop it all in the bazaar if it wasnt hard to get. Then everyone would have it anyways.
They actually rotate on this, for awhile farming to yield the best gear. Then they make crafted gear better. Then they release crown gear that is pretty decent and update packs, then they do it all over again. So Darkmoor is hot today, but eventually another type of gear will surpass it.

Because they're still kids too and they don't want to share their Antique Cello with me >=I
If anything farming is the only reason some of us even still go on W101. We farm for our gear, pets, housing items, gardens, and now jewels. Though item farming can sure get boring pretty quickly, seeing my spells cast over, and over, and seeing the boss cast his spells over, and over. This game practically screams "multi-task" to those of us who have seen enough of our spells but still need to farm![]()

What you said is true, not getting what you want for months is not only no fun but can seem unfair compared to those that already have the items. I read a post comment once -and I'm bad with names so sorry I am not giving credit to who said it but it was a great idea- that person goes in expecting nothing, no good drops, no top notch gear so that when they do receive a great item that's a bonus but not what was expected.
I have a friend that farmed darkmoor for 7 months and only just recently received the boots she so long sought for. I am having the same luck on my balance wizard, I have ran 10 times and not received a single top tier piece of gear. I have farmed Morganthe since the release and still never gotten a life drop.
When it gets that frustrating, giving yourself a break here and there is essential. Is there something else you can do with some of your time that will produce more rewards?
Maybe giving yourself several rewards from other means will help ease the frustration you feel over the things you want but have yet to receive. That's why I like to garden, sure results. The reason I'll low level farm halfang for gold, sure results. These smaller things add up in my book and allow me to be ok not to farm every second for some amazing gear piece that seem to avoid my hands.
Sorry you're having a rough go with it, I hope you get the item you want soon.

The drop rate of items are extremely low, I wish that there was another way to get the items without having to repeatedly farm over and over. That is a huge waste of time, clicking cards for an hour for one chance at a drop. Then repeat until the item is dropped. It is so pointless and mind numbing. I understand that by doing this KI gives players something to do, but it is a very uninteresting and time draining method of keeping players busy :/
