      Deadly Minotaur

I just got a myth mastery amulet from my one and only (thankfully) trip to Tower of the Helephant, and I had a ton of training points left, so I decided to get all of the myth spells. Maybe I'll use the amulet for earthquake later on. However, I remembered that there was a mutate minotaur spell that changes the look of the spell and converts it to death damage, allowing me to use it without needing the amulet. I still had plenty of points left and decided to try it out. It may not be the easiest spell to find during a battle, but it turns out that it's rather useful. Sure, deer knight is still vastly superior, but this spell is good for some laughs and for removing those pesky tower shields that certain bosses just love to use (glares at Astraeus).

Now people may say that it's not all that great because you can't use enchantments on it like colossal. However, it might as well already be enchanted with colossal (the back end anyway). Minotaur does 50 and then 445 damage. With colossal, that jumps to 188 and 583 because it splits the damage in half to cover both attacks. Deadly minotaur does 65 and then 600. Spells like minotaur and orthrus are usually used for breaking down barriers with a weak hit, then going in with a massive hit. In that instance, deadly minotaur and colossal minotaur are about the same.

      Re: Deadly Minotaur

It's a handy spell, but as you level up, you will eventually have higher-damage options for your 5-pip slot. Enchanted deer with a decent gear-based damage boost and 2 blades can hit each opponent for over 2800 total damage, also removing death shields and towers.

The backend having over 90% of the damage is nice though. Deer is a little more frontloaded, meaning shields will blunt a bigger part of it.

I don't think it worth the Training Point, one day you will run out TP and ouch retrain will cost so much.

FYI: garden of dead beets will give you Deadly Minotaur TCs, you can also hunt deadly minotaur tcs and mutate minotaur tcs in bazaar.

      Re: Deadly Minotaur

My noob Myth is in Mooshu, with a Deathy Minotaur pet(that gives its card) he also has the death mastery necklace.
I must agree the spell is quite handy may get TC's off another wiz to have more in TC deck instead of main hand.

But I agree, don't think I would sacrifice the points for the spell.

      Great idea though.

      My kind of crazy

      Re: Deadly Minotaur

The main problem I have with this spell now is that while gargantuan and colossal may work for any spell, mutate minotaur only works for minotaur, and there won't be many times (well, far less than I would like) where you will have both a minotaur and a mutate card ready. Plus, it takes up twice as much space for as many attacks. Still, it is a fun and useful spell.

      Re: Deadly Minotaur

To all who say this is not worth training points: the OP went for Earthquake anyway, so getting Deadly Minotaur is just 1 (one) TP on top of it. And yes, it's a great spell. Poison and the like work over multiple turns, giving the opposition some time to react. Deadly Minotaur, when properly bladed, will remove a shield and kill in one quick motion .
My wizards: Corwin Swiftcatcher (Death), Alexandra Winterflower (Ice), Darby Firebreeze (Fire), Katie Wildheart (Storm), Heather (Life), Sarah LionHeart (Myth).

One thing you could do is make a bunch of custom tc sideboard versions using the tc version of mutate minotaur. You save a train point, have a renewable supply of death minotaurs, and don't draw regular minotaurs unless you want them.

The tc mutate minotaur can be bought from the ZF librarian or the CL archivist, can't remember which.

You do give up the chance to colossal it, but it's best used in a setting where your native gear damage boost is already high, and you have either infallible or amplify up + some blades. It's situational - they have to have less than 2 relevant shields - and if they have high death resist, you're better off just enchanting a regular minotaur or earth and hitting with that.

And many players forgetting that deadly minotaur is already enhanced.
Normal mino + collosal do 188+583 damage
      Mutated mino do 65+600 damage.

Since first hit goes into shield anyway, there isnt a big loss for not being able to be colosaled

death usually has a lot spare since we don't train to feint, hehe, and some don't even bother with life.
