Nightmare Packs are very Disappointmenting!

you don't seem to understand or its willfully ignorance on your part but there scamming people. the packs they made are designed to rob people blind there for it is there fault!. If you build a bridge but you cut corners and used poor quality supplies but you tell me it is a good bridge so I use it and as I walk across it collapses you can not say it was my fault for choosing to use the bridge. its your fault for building a poor bridge. That is called liability! I can say as a new player that started in August when buying the cards I had no warning that explicitly stated that this was gambling which it obviously was. Had I know I would not have participated. there for this is a carnival scam! you can not dance around the facts.

I think it is your understand,ent of this, it is your decision to buy the packs or not. KI put them out there so people could buy some neat things, they dont how ever tell you to buy them, and they also do not say that you will get what you want. The understandment is built on your ignorance to understand that you will not always get what you want, and blaming KI is certainly kiddish, when you know that these packs are already what you would call a "gamble."

I wont buy any of the Nightmare packs anymore.

I bought them in previous offerings, back when they offered a lot of fun Halloween stuff to go along.

If I didn't get what I was after, I had a lot of neat stuff to decorate houses with.

Now it seems like they have diluted the pack with useless reagents, and pet snacks.

Not worth spending the crowns on.

I see it like this. Hoard packs in the crowns shop are sort of like gumball machines. Inside each gumball machine there are some really nice expensive gourmet truffles that cost about $20 each. The rest of the contents are just plain old common gumballs. Now then, the thing is it cost a $1 to turn the crank for a chance at a truffle but the chances are you will only get seven 5¢ gumballs for your efforts. If it were a real machine eventually if you keep putting in dollars you will get a truffle. With KI's hoard packs things go a bit further. Still using the gumball machine analogy, if one were dealing with a KI maintained gumball machine the outside would be painted black so you cannot see how many truffles are inside, and every time you put in a dollar, KI empties out the machine. If you ask me, how KI computes hoard pack drops is pretty sorry. The only difference between it and gambling is that you get something for your money each and every time out of a hoard pack.

Exactly the problem. A kid friendly game should not endorse gambling.

I can't really argue with that. However, it's extremely mild in the case of hoard packs and it gives the poorer kids a shot at good gear, pets and mounts they couldn't otherwise afford. OP however doesn't really have cause for complaint because he voluntarily gambled that much and kept throwing good money after bad. In all honesty, if I hadn't got lucky on the first half dozen, I doubt I would have bought more. I would have quit then saying this pack is garbage.

Sadly, kids don't know when to quit. A kid is different from a 20 (or whatever age you are ._. I wouldn't know xD) year old.

You figure pretty darn good. Alright, you hit the nail on the head. 20. And, yes, but that just proves that they should be monitored by their parents. Whether or not they have responsible parents is not on KI. Pity for them if they don't. I feel sorry for every kid that doesn't have responsible, caring parents and fortunate that I do.

Following the logic that this is not a babysitting service, then the excuse for swearing that kids might see it is invalid, that's a different discussion, but just putting it out there. Sadly, minors won't always be supervised. That means this gambling scam (lack of better words, once again! Lol) will continue on with young children. Like when a kid goes to Chuck-E-Cheese (Haven't been there in like... 6 or 7 years? e_e) and tries that spinning wheel, you're always guarrenteed at least one ticket, but it doesn't change. You still get that disappointment in your heart.

Major difference here -- the cursing around the filter is against the rules. Buying hoard packs isn't. (Obviously.) I let my nephew watch me play sometimes but I always make a trip to my account and switch to menu chat first.

So I'm not sure what your stance is, you're saying it is gambling but not at the same time. Lol. Mind clarifying?

It's sort of gambling but such a mild form as not to be worrisome and it doesn't reach the legal definition of gambling.

The chances of getting anything unique and useful are much lower than buying an equal number of an existing lore pack.

The only gear that is worth having at any level are compelling and/or umbral gear. There are five other full sets of gear in these packs, none of which are worth the value of a pack.

The wands are vanishingly rare and only one is worth opening at 50+ and above.

And that just covers the ultra-rare content.

You're strictly better off buying Keeper's Lore and fishing for jade, which is only rare; and the other sets of gear are not useless either, they have less resist but are more balanced statwise. The Keeper's tc spells stack with their normal tc counterparts, ore are especially useful variants of known tc counterparts. The only thing you won't find in Keeper's is a unique mount.

The only reason I would ever consider buying nightmare packs is if I had thousands of dollars to throw away on packs, and only ever just wanted one of the spectral pegasus mounts.

Perhaps nightmare packs had better items in the past, or were less diluted with junk than they are now. Because it is a form of gambling, any intelligent person would place their bets elsewhere.

I don't know about that. I got a cool scythe wand that I've stitched to the sky iron hasta I got from Acquila that looks way cool. I got a lot of good gear that I'm using over the crown gear I previously had on so the stats are good and gives me critical and critical block (though no one's criticaled me yet). Critical is sweet! Love that! Got good pets, got crown housing items like the bubbling cauldron KP likes. All in all, I liked what I got. Next year, it won't be so lucrative unless I get a mount and will be less worth it but if you haven't been on a previous Halloween and don't already have this stuff, it's a really good buy.

To each his own, I suppose. Whether you like the cosmetic dainties and whatnot is beside the point, the point is the actual EV of a pack of nightmare is significantly less than that of other packs from previous years.

Stating that straight from the Wizard101 website, they don't guarantee you receiving a special item from the Halloween pack or any other packs.

Now about the whole issue in gambling...I don't really consider it a gamble because at the end of the day, you do receive something in return. You may like it or not, but the fact is you indeed receive something from the pack. I also believe they envisioned the packs to be like a toy vending machine. You take that small chance of getting the toy you want, but there's always the other chance that you will get something you don't desire at all.

The simple solution to the problem? Don't buy packs. Unfortunately, we don't always get what we want, and that is one of life's lessons. We can't really do anything about it because we are not obliged to buy the packs. It's is just like a small treat, and doesn't affect the outcome of the game.

Agreed, the pack is very disappointing.

Bad pack/horrible luck makes you call it 'gambling' ?? No way!!! We all know a pack is sort of buying a cat in (an unlimited space) bag.
Now if you have a chance to get back doubling/tripling/quadrupling your crowns you've paid for a pack, then you have a right to call it gambling.

It's gambling, and it's wrong. I try to never buy these packs anymore, because they have filled them up with so much junk. But sometimes I succumb to the bling and buy a few. Or, buy a lot if they go on sale...

Usually, I hate myself afterward for being such a rube.
