A Beginners Guide to developing your own pet talents

There is no magic bullet that will give you any set of talents in 1 hatch. However, any talent combination can be developed for any pet.

This guide will take you through the steps and provide tips that will help you develop any set of talents that you wish for, irrespective if this is the 1st time at developing pets or you have been doing this for a while and want to try something different. This guide takes you through the steps towards developing a pet with 4 talents, but you can choose to only develop a pet with 2 talents, or use the same process to develop a pet with 5 talents.

Before we start, the only advice I can give anyone who is just starting, is to be patient. If you try to take short cuts, start hatching randomly or change the process the results may be different.

What will help you develop pets

      1. Gardens: When I first started I had no idea how invaluable gardens are. Take the time a develop some gardens, for pet snacks, treasure cards you can sell at the bazaar for gold. There are amazing guides on central on this topic under the gardening section

      2. Farming: When you need gold, head to wintertusk and battle Halfang, the drops from him will quickly add up to gold you need for hatching

What you will need to start

      1. Any pet (s): The wiki here on central has the most extensive information on pets. You can see what pets look like, which boss drops them, talents etc

      2. You will need to select 4 talents you would like on a pet, that would be valuable to you and your wizards
Go through all of your pets, and see whether the talents you are after have appeared on any of your pets. Ideally, you are looking for all 4 talents. It doesn't matter, whether the talents are on 4 different pets or on 3, it is just a starting point. If any of the talents you are after have not appeared on any of your pets, then request a hatch from the pet mix ups section for the specific talent(s) you are after.

How can you tell if talents have transferred?

The diagram below provides a couple of examples that may help you out. As you gain experience being able to determine whether a talent has transferred becomes easier.

      Generally things to look for:
      1. If a talent appears on a baby pet, look to see whether one or both parents have the same talent type in their pool
      2. Rarely, you may see a talent appearing that does not exist in either parents, it is possible that the talent comes from grandparents
      3. Talents move around, so dont expect them to always appear in the exact same place as they appear in the parents.

Finally, if you are unsure of what talent has transferred, take a screenshot of the parents and the baby and ask for help in the pet mixing forum

The examples I provide is an illustration of the process, and by no means are they reflective of the number of hatches that may be required to complete your goal, nor is this the only method that can be used to develop pets.

Re: A Beginners Guide to developing your own pet talents

This is a wonderful guide and just what I needed since I am trying to create a pet from scratch. I think it would be helpful if you placed your last slide first. I was confused at first because I couldn't understand where pet 5 was coming in. Sorry I really do have tunnel vision and it took me a minute just to look at the rest of the slides and figure it out. I do have a question of course. I am trying to lose defy off of a pet that has spritely, since the talents move positions how would I know when not to train?

      Thanks,
      Scarlet

Another super guide, and with pretty slides too . I shall await the "Idiots guide to hatching" before I attempt to try by myself though , my brain doesn't allow me to decipher charts and stats etc.

Iíll give you the text version of what I think the charts say.

      Rule 0 BE PATIENT!
Rule 1 only hatch pets with the talents you want manifested.
Rule 2 only train pets that have all of the next level of talents transferred.
Rule 3 if a pet fails stop training it and do not use it.
Rule 4 at each stage of the process only go up one age level on the offspring pet.
      Rule 5 see Rule 0.

So first you combine pets where each has a talent you want and train the offspring. At each step of training you ask was this a manifested talent that I wanted (Rule 3).

Also don't start training if both of the talents did not transfer to the new pet. (This can be hard to tell if you have the allot of the same rarity talents, Rule 2)

So on the first hatch at teen if it is what you wanted great train to adult and if that talent also is what you wanted time to move to the next section. If it fails at either stage stop training and cast it aside. Start over hatching the parents.

Next you do the same process with pets that have the other 2 talents you want.

From those 2 hatches you should have 2 pets each with 2 talents you want that are not on the other pet.

You then hatch those 2 pets together and train the offspring to ancient and stop at any fail (Rule 3) and discard the fail. Here again you only proceed with pets where all 4 talents are in the pool (Rule 2).

Once you get a pet with 3 desired manifested talents hatch it with the adult pet that has the missing talent. Make sure that all four talents are in the pool (Rule 2) and continue this training process to Epic stopping training on any pet that fails and hatching these parent pets again if there was a fail. (Rule 3)

      I want to emphasize this.

For anyone new to pet development or just new to the game that may read this thread, Sophia posts an excellent guide but one needs to understand that any development project usually takes many hatches with many fails along the way. Rome was not built in a day and neither is a pet built from scratch.

Good Luck to all of you pet fanatics out there! It is frustrating along the way but so fun when you reach the project's end goal.

Thanks Sophia, a truly amazing guide. Your wealth of experience and knowledge in the area condensed and presented in a format even a pet-noob like me can understand and enjoy. This guide will be first stop whenever I decide to start down along the track of pet training.
