I just see this way because not all of us learned life to centaur, and at level 28 you don't even have centaur.....

Re: Illustrated Guide to Freddy Nine Lives (DEATH ONLY)

Great guide! My death will be using it, but she doesn't have life to centaur. Does Storm work too? Anyway, very helpful guide, one question though, you said his school changes based on what school you are, but my Life fought the death version of him too. It was awhile ago, but I didn't hear anything about it changing. Was that a glitch or something?

Avi from online, sig by me! TAE is: reading manga! Thank you so much Mythical Iron for the epic profile pic!

First of all, Animate is useful no matter how early. My wife passed to me an Ianthine Specter (who gives one Animate at Baby) before I was level 12, and I did find it useful, even with 1-2 pips. The low-level minions send a stream of Dark Sprites, distracting enemies and occasionally destroying a Death Shield or three. They Tower Shield themselves, often requiring more than one hit to die. Even a Storm Shark might not kill Charmed Sprite with Tower on.

As for Freddy, I killed him with Vampires, blades and prisms. I carry a wand with 4 0-pip life attacks and an additional pip at the beginning of combat (going to replace that with the one giving a POWER pip as soon as I level up to 45). Those life attacks would break Life Shields if Freddy had any .

With Vampire, you always finish a battle at full health and are immediately ready to fight him again. I was around level 29 when I fought him but could manage it earlier if all the quests I took to get there did not take me to that level. It is an extremely easy task if you make your deck properly.

Awesome guide! I remember when I had to do this on my Death.. wasn't what I would call fun.
But once I got the hang of it, it got pretty easy. Just killing him 9 times is the annoying part.

Well I can disagree with that. It can certainly egg away some health, even on a death boss, and with it up, you can simply set death prisms when they are going to make a good hit, while you can save your pips for seraph/whatever you can do on the boss. Why else do I use my minion all the time? One pip minions are still good, because they may tower shield you, or they may have a deathblade-death trap-vampire ready to go on the boss.

Actually, summoning minions at high levels can easily bring you to death, exactly because it eats your pips in a critical combat situation. You'd better have (quite) a few shields up before you do that.
On lower levels, though, it is much less risky if you do it early enough (or after dispatching one enemy while being in good condition - relatively easy with lifesteal spells): you lose a couple of pips, can switch from hitting to shielding and (soon) healing, because hitting is now done by someone (something?) else.

It is a matter of strategy and play style, as anything in this game. You need to know when you can do something. Not so easy when going second against storm enemies (who might either hit you very hard or fizzle completely, keeping their pips for next turn), which is why I rarely if ever Animate against them. Much easier to do when going first and/or fighting balance, ice or life. In fact, those three types almost beg you to animate: they can be extremely annoying with their weakness, tower shield and death shield, especially when you go second. Having another body with an infinite deck beside you helps very much.

I did start Wysteria before getting to Freddy, but decided that I don't have to finish it to level up: Marleybone was easy enough (not Kensington Park, of course - it's still waiting for me ).

As for Freddy not having life shields - I know that. If you look closer, you'll notice the "if": "if Freddy had any"

Re: Illustrated Guide to Freddy Nine Lives (DEATH ONLY)

I also struggle to understand this strategy, Why on earth would you bother with life spells when you are a death Wizard ??
why arent you using sacrifice to heal or getting health back from your attacks. I'd rather use balistas amulet than a life school ammy
There is no need to set up one big attack, blade, prism, trap/feint, vampire and repeat, add a shield if you want to protect yourself while using feint. At lvl28 you can get the spirit blade from the balance tree, this is well worth getting, a second blade is very useful for death. You could even get a TC blade and really buff yourself. A death wiz should heal from its attacks wherever possible.

Re: Illustrated Guide to Freddy Nine Lives (DEATH ONLY)

Personally, I really enjoyed defeating this boss on my life, though not so much on my death.

It's a nice guide. One thing though, I thing you should add some to it on how to defeat him with only death spells. A lot of death wizards train life, but it's very rare that they train past Satyr. Centaur becomes a waste of training points and people prefer to train in specific spells now, rather than learning a whole school.

      I like Hawk Iceblade's idea.
