View Full Version : Using Wizard101 Treasure Cards
LadyNightOwl 08-16-2008, 07:54 AM As requested, I've created a visual guide to using Treasure Cards.
Treasure Card Guide
By: LadyNightOwl
If you're feeling noobish about Treasure Cards, look no further!
This guide will describe how to acquire them and includes a few other tips and tricks
http://www.wizard101central.com/forums/../images/librarians2.jpg
MEET THE LIBRARIANS
If you want specific cards, you'll have to go see Harold Argleston in Wizard City or Zan'ne in Krokotopia and buy them. If you have never been to the libraries, clicking on your compass should help you find them.
To get to the Wizard City library, if you are coming from Merle Ambrose's house, take the path leading straight from his gate and go over the (nameless) bridge, the library will be right in front of you. You will find the Krokotopia library near Prospector Zeke. Of course you can always check your map to see where Harold Argleston or Zan'ne are.
Unfortunately, they seem to have discontinued stocking most of the special and more expensive cards.
http://www.wizard101central.com/forums/../images/buycards_small.jpg
BUYING TREASURE CARDS
Once you find the library, walk up to Harold or Zan'ne. Click the 'X' and 'Treasure Card Shop' (if you are working on a quest for them), and a box like the one above will open.
If they have not assigned you a quest or do not have one available, the box should open immediately when you click 'X'. The red arrow indicates the tabs which divide the cards into classes or other categories.
The first tab at the top shows all available treasure cards (from all schools of magic). On each tab after the first, you'll recognize the symbols for each school (Fire, Ice, Storm, Myth, Life, Death and Balance). The last tab, which looks like a starburst, will show cards that increase spell damage or accuracy.
If you are looking for cards from a specific class, click the applicable tab, select the card and click "buy" if you have enough gold.
In the example above, I have clicked on the "Earthquake" spell (no longer available for purchase). It tells me how many I own, shows an image of the card that includes what it does (355 damage from the Myth school in addition to removing charms and shields from all enemies). Since it is a Myth card, it is especially useful against Storm enemies!
Cards under the starburst tab will only work with the cards that are part of your normal deck, which you have received from professors or others that give spells in exchange for training points, not other Treasure Cards!
In order to use Treasure Cards, you must add them to your deck just like any other card. Tap "P" on your keyboard, which will bring you to your spell deck. Click on the last tab (with the white/gold cards) to go to your Treasure Cards. The section on the left shows the cards that would be available in battle - on the right are the cards that you can add.
In the example below, I have three empty spaces as indicated by the blue arrow and numbers.
I like having a lot of healing cards on hand for non-Life characters, so I click on the Pixie three times to fill in the spaces.
That's it, now you'll be able to use the cards!
http://www.wizard101central.com/forums/../images/add2deck_small.jpg
ADDING CARDS TO YOUR DECK
Now for the fun part: using the cards in battle. You will have seven cards in your hand at a time.
If you want to use a Treasure Card, simply right click on any card to discard it then click DRAW.
I suggest discarding duplicates of something such as wand spells, shields for spells that your opponent isn't likely to use, etc.
Up to three or four Treasure Cards can be drawn per round.
Sometimes, you may not get the card you want when you want it - which is why I have so many pixies, can't go wrong then. ;)
So, if you've drawn cards that you do not want, you will be able to discard them from your hand in the next round and draw again.
http://www.wizard101central.com/forums/../images/usecard_small.jpg
DISCARD, DRAW AND USE THE CARD
On the other hand, you may draw the right card, but be unable to use it until you have enough pips. So you will either have to pass or use spells that do not cost pips such as wand spells, shields, traps or blades until you are able to cast the desired spell.
Power Pips do not count for Treasure Cards.
Once you have the desired card in hand and the pips to cast it, you just use it like any other spell!
Good luck and I hope this guide helps you. May the Great Moodha smile on your journeys!

LadyNightOwl 08-30-2008, 09:51 PM Yes, you can only use them once. I didn't include it in the guide because they say it in the game in a few places (including the help section in your spellbook). :)

BobRichmond 11-11-2008, 07:41 AM ...Cards under the starburst tab will only work with the cards that are part of your normal deck, which you have received from professors or others that give spells in exchange for training points, not other Treasure Cards!...
You might consider adding to this that enhance cards also do NOT work with any spell cards that are obtained from items in your backpack (clothes, pets, wands, etc.)
Note: A VERY nice and helpful guide!:thumbup1:

LadyNightOwl 12-18-2008, 03:23 PM Um,one question. How do you discard a card?Well I cant press the draw button. So mind if you can teach me?:whistling:
I told you in the guide lol ;)
If you want to use a Treasure Card, simply right click on any card to discard it then click DRAW.
You won't be able to click on DRAW if you have a full hand of cards (7). You'll be able to click on it after discarding.
dayday128 12-29-2008, 12:27 AM i have pressed discard with the cards equiped and nothing works i think i have a glitch or something :)
Illithian 12-29-2008, 12:32 AM You cannot discard treasure cards until the turn after you draw them, and you won't be able to draw any treasure cards unless you have space for them. Completely as described in her guide.
To discard a card, RIGHT CLICK ON IT. It will vanish mysteriously. Note: It will not go back into your deck unless you use a Reshuffle spell.

Nice guide, very helpful.
Very true. Thank you :)
It's been some time since I updated or made any corrections to the guide - this was made when the game was still in Beta.
mariosonic99 06-05-2009, 11:02 AM This guide helped me a lot. Very informative. I should've payed more attention when diego went over it but I didn't get it then. Now I understand how the treasure cards work.

AlisVolatPropiis 08-14-2009, 02:56 AM You Rock!!!! I've only been playing for 2 weeks and I'm level 20. I had no idea how to use treasure cards and no one would answer me in the game when I asked.
lisatighe 08-30-2009, 10:11 PM How exactly do I use the "Tough" or "Keen Eyes" cards? I have put them in my deck and during battle I discard and draw them. But at this point I am lost. If I click on the card I do not get a 'checkmark' indicating where I can cast it. I have tried on other cards, my character, etc
BakaCake 09-09-2009, 09:49 PM I used to be puzzled about the treasure cards... Now I am not.
Graveline 09-27-2009, 08:08 AM Marvelous Guide! Good JOB!

Do you remember Diego's tutorial?
For those cards (enchantments), after you draw it you click first on that and then the regular card that you want to make stronger.
For instance: You want to give Kraken more accuracy. So you discard something and draw Keen Eyes. Click once on the Keen Eyes and then right after, click the Kraken - it will turn into a treasure card and is ready for use as soon as you have the pips to cast it. The same applies for Toughs.
Hope that helps. Thanks all for the compliments/comments. I'm glad this is useful - though it does need some updating. I'd like to add information about the cards available via the Bazaar and crafting as well at some point. :)
Nicholas NightFlame 09-27-2009, 09:17 AM AMASING! great job thx for the buying treausre cards in your deck thing, I didn't know that

StormWiz 02-17-2010, 06:13 AM Awesome Guide, Thank You!
Luke FireBlade 02-17-2010, 06:15 AM the only time i hate treasure cards is when dumb noobs use them in pvps. ugh! it bugs me!
Jailie 03-22-2010, 11:21 AM This guide was a such good help for me. I thought I had either missed part of the tutorial, hadn't talked to the right character yet or hadn't leveled up enough but it turns out I was simply just too dumb to figure out how to discard spells from the hand drawn and to draw treasure cards. lol
Thank you for this great guide!
Carlitos 03-22-2010, 11:55 AM awesome guide :)
The King of Death 03-22-2010, 06:20 PM Nice guide!
save the gooblers 03-25-2010, 09:17 PM Fantastic guide.
Nekrom 03-29-2010, 11:26 PM A few notes...
Casting:
Power pips DO work on treasure cards from your own school.
Drawing Treasure Cards:
You could discard your entire hand and draw 7 treasure cards if you really wanted to. Drawing three or four is a recommendation, not a limit.
Pricing:
The Bazaar is generally cheaper than the library. For example, a single shield spell costs 150g in the library, but in the bazaar the price will vary depending on how many are in stock. If there's 100 of the same shield, the first one will cost 38g and the price will increase until the last one left will cost 113g, but that's still cheaper than the library.
Card Sets:
In the bazaar, you'll see a listing for the card's "set". The blank ones and the one with the wizard head work the same, but the tree symbol is for Eye of Bartleby cards, and those are better than the basic ones. Sometimes they do more damage, and other ones have higher accuracy or damage resist percentages.
Create Your Own:
You can create your own treasure cards through crafting, but you can also make them in battle. In my opinion, the best place to make them in battle is the first floor of the Golem Tower. There is only one weak opponent there, and nobody can follow you in or teleport in to you, so you don't have to worry about interruptions.
Get a bunch of modifier cards like Tough and Keen Eyes and put them in your sideboard. Then fill your main deck with spells you'd like to make into treasure cards. The modifier cards only apply to learned spells, item spells will not work. Damage modifiers like Tough, Strong, etc. apply to regular damage spells, but for some reason will not work on health-drain spells from the Death school. Keen Eyes, Accurate, and other accuracy modifiers should apply to any type of learned spell, unless it's accuracy is already 100%.
Trading:
You can't sell cards that you made in battle to the bazaar, but you CAN trade them to other players.
Treasure Cards are the only item that can be traded from one character to another on a separate account. Some people will say that they will trade a gift bought with crowns for treasure cards, but it may be a scam. Whether you are the one giving a crowns gift or trading the cards, there is nothing you can do to make sure the other player will uphold their part of the bargain. You may hand over the cards or buy the gift only to have the other player run off and put you on ignore. Since you're only supposed to trade cards for cards, reporting them won't matter, and may get YOU in trouble instead.
P34f0w1 03-29-2010, 11:38 PM Thanks for telling me power pips do not count!
